28 year old injury prone Sean Darcy, who still has 4 years to run at approx 1mil per year. Not to mention he had a very similar unathletic game style to nank.

That just isn’t worth it for an end of first round pick.

Why?
It’s perfect
The 1ml doesn’t hurt one iota with our current list demographic

Picking up a 1st round pick would be fantastic

We aren’t contending in the next 4 years .. If this is an option it seems like a no brainer

1. I just don’t believe port can match what we are reportedly offering.
2. If they are able to match I wouldn’t think 1 of end first round pick and 1 future first which is pushed back by Tassie priority picks would satisfy them.
3. If that is the deal then I would happily make that for Butters, but I would just give them our compo pick instead of taking on that contract for an injury prone immobile ruck who similarly to nank seems like the game has gone past (Mason cox is keeping him out of the side for goodness sakes).

The Freo/Darcy plan isn't a bad plan at all, but I'd be surprised it Freo's 2026 1st rounder (likely to be near 20) and our 2027 1st (compromised) is enough for Port TBH. Depends on what gymnastics they'd have to do on Cochrane if we bid I guess.

For the kind of money it will take to bring in Darcy I would want a better pick unless Port in on board. Geelong got P7 for Bowes on about 500k a few years ago. P20 for 1m/year isn't good enough unless it's all going to smooth over with Port and Butters.

So it would be something like:

Out
2027 1st

In
Darcy
Butters

Draft before slides
P1
P19
P20
F/S + NGA options Daffy, Leys, Armstrong

Not a bad plan

I also don’t think that would be enough for port although I’m still adamant they can’t match the offer we make but anyway.

I know we have cap space for days, it just seems like the game has mostly gone past Darcy like it has for nank and other unathletic rucks. To be tied to him at 1mil a year for 4 years, just to retain our compo pick doesn’t seem worth it to me.

As in, instead of freos pick 18, why not just give up our 19? Yes, we have 1 less end of 1st round / start of 2nd round, but you avoid Darcy on the list.

All has to wrap up together TK.

We'll be buying a 1st rounder + ruck depth and then there's the promise not to bid on Cochrane. So Port gets a top 10 pick in both 26+27 and they don't sacrifice them bidding on Cochrane. We get Butters, Darcy in exchange for a F1st essentially?

Tiger71 on Tigercast tonight:

* We're looking to do a deal with Freo for ruckman Sean Darcy where Freo do a salary cap dump and we get their first round pick. Similar to the Bowes trade Geelong did with Gold Coast.

* We would then promise Port not to bid on Cochrane at pick 1 and offer them Freo's first rounder we get from the above Darcy trade as well as our future first for Butters. That way we keep pick 1.

* In the above scenario, we would bid on Walker at pick 1 so we still get the end of first round compo pick.

* The idea of getting Darcy is to give us a mature ruck to allow HVH (pick 1) time to develop without throwing him to the wolves.

* We will trade someone out next year to bring in an A-grader. He didn't mention any names but also said in another part of the video that he is worried about Mansell (going to Tassie).

Are Essendon at pick 2 not going to bid on Cochrane?

I still think Butters will go to a club that offers a crack at a flag. Who ever gets Butters will pay a pretty packet of money regardless. He will be well compensated no matter what.
Its very short sighted if people think its all about the money for Butters. He wants success now most likely and id say he has just as much chance of it at P/A as he currently does with us.

Carlton has put a five-year offer on the table for Sydney free agent Joel Amartey, who also has a five-year deal waiting from the Swans.

In any deal for Butters (who I don't think will select us) we could swap our first round picks so they get pick 1, we get there pick 5 or whatever it is.  They get the best open pool player plus Cochrane.
Then offer other picks TBC

It's only fair that now we're 18th on the ladder, I show the faith back in the club and do everything I can to put them in front. In the end, I'm stoked I made the decision to stay. I f***ing love this club”

Doesn’t matter if he never plays a game

It’s a list spot at 1ml a year, which we can easily absorb

Gaining a first round pick would be absolutely sensational

If he played, it’s a bonus , but really is irrelevant

If they give up their first rounder they won’t have the points to match a Cochrane bid. Even if we promise not to bid at #1, bombers will do it at #2.

You can only use 2 picks now to match, so unless they trade in more picks, their 2nd and 3rd rounder won’t suffice.

Sheesh i hope this is not true. They are clones and we know the rules and all that sort of thing has made Nankervis almost obsolete.

Gws supporters are thinking exactly the same thing we are about Nankervis.
He is slow cant jump takes less marks than nank and is not as good as Nank when the ball hits the ground.

Geez i really hope this is not happening GWS  will be rubbing their hands with glee.
