Bailey Smith held a secret meeting with Zak Butters in recent weeks alongside Geelong officials, with the Cats mounting a final pitch to the Port superstar. Smith pushed the Cats lifestyle + the future. Details + his statement to @7newsmelbourne

Tiger71 from Tigercast posted this on X/twitter last night:

"Relax Tiger family. Nothing changed. Its the same as when Twomey call Lynch a lock to the pies a week out before he signed with us, ditto Prestia to Melbourne a week out, ditto Hopper to Cats and Tarranto to pies locked in 2 weeks out. My source has confirmed nothings changed"

Great signings tells me the club has confirmation and due to Lalor contract not being resigned till next year with the new class.....good signs. Get the lower costs ones out of the way before the big one in 2 or 3 weeks lol

Is the follow up comments by Leslie Roy on that last post an issue as he says Geelong is a lock?
Can't add link as not on X, but it is clearly readable in the link OE posted above.

Wazza, that's this post below on X/twitter but who is Leslie Roy? There's lots of people on social media saying different things while claiming they have the inside goss. Only Butters himself and those close to him would truly know where he is going.

"Butters to Geelong is a lock unfortunately my mail has him there for 9 year contract, hated Geelong before they got Jezza now getting butters I want to play them in another GF and smash them again!!! #F***Geelong"

Tiger71 on the Tigercast youtube show tonight:

* Richmond is still well in front for Butters. Our offer will make him the highest paid player in the game. More than what Dusty got.

* Butters is keen to look after Port given what they did in the past for his "circle". Our future picks are far more valuable than anything the Dogs, Cats or Pies can offer with Tassie entering the draft next year. For example, if we finish 17th next year and the other three finish 7th, 8th & 9th, then our future first is pick 4 while the others are pick 18, 19 or 20. If they finish higher than 7th it's a pick in the 20s.

* Port has sour history with Geelong. Cats went after Travis Boak via the media.

* Geelong being the favourite for Butters is a distraction by the AFL friendly media (Ch 7) given the damaging waiver story.

* Briggs is the favoured out of him and Sean Darcy. The latter has gone cold although Tiger71 said he hasn't asked about it recently.

* We are chasing Noah Anderson next year. Not a lock but we are going after him.

Would we look at Tsatis from the Bombers?
Gets it a lot, kicking an issue.  New environment?

Comedy god.  :lol
"The money might have been better. But, at the end of the day, Richmond showed faith in me. It's only fair that now we're 18th on the ladder, I show the faith back in the club and do everything I can to put them in front. In the end, I'm stoked I made the decision to stay. I f***ing love this club”

He seems very confident on this one.  Hope he is right but can't see it happening.
Will be glad to be proven wrong.

Question assuming Bombers win and we have Pick 1.  Could Port accept the compensation pick No. 5 for Butters.
Then we trade pick 1 for pick 5 as a seperate deal.  Port gets best player, plus their academy selection.
Is this allowed?

pmac, I think the AFL can refuse trades like that unless there's a clear salary dump, point benefit or player involved etc. They are wary of clubs compromising the draft.

Port would likely need to keep that P5 compo to match an early bid for Cochrane, probably with their 1st rounder, so I don't think we'd be able to get it off them.

Maybe we could trade them Hopper and Ryan with P1 as a salary dump since they won't need to pay Butters :)
