Josh Carr says he’s still holding onto a “glimmer of hope” that Zak Butters will stay at Port Adelaide as the chances of the superstar returning against Essendon fade.

Port CEO, Matthew Richardson on Zak Butters' future.

Could the Power have an answer on Zak's future as early as next week?

"We’ll wait until next week and we’ll prepare for that from that point forward".

Port tank. Essendon win and we get pick 1 for Butters.

However what hasn't been mentioned yet is why wouldn't we entertain playing hardball with Port to take Butters in PSD. I mean Butters is likely to think of Port compo in someway, what is stopping us pitching to him that he comes for free and we keep our draft capital improving our list even further where as Geelong or Dogs will have to give up something significant and worsening their future compared to us.

I'd love us to convinced Butters that much for him to agree to go in PSD draft and convince Port to not match FA bid and then they get pick 5 as compo FA.

This would significantly improve us. Butters in PSD, give Port exchange of picks where they greatly win out of as agreement to not match FA Possibly pick 19 for nothing, and we keep pick 1.

Then we go into next year with Pick 1, Pick 19 (compo for Walker bid on Pick 1) and Butters. Outrageous improvement.

Other side of the coin TL, he has morals, loves his club but wants to come home, doesn't want to see them screwed over, and maybe wouldn't be the right sort of recruit if he was ready to knife his club like that.

But yes, I'd love it if we could pull it off.

once the season is over that loyalty will be diminished.  :shh

I bet he goes elsewhere for lower valued picks that we would have given which goes to my point.

You aren’t walking in Butters shoes. Why on earth would he come to Tigerland? For any reason? The worst run club in the AFL bar Essington. Virtually no prospect to get any better in the next 5 years.
Rudderless on field
Soulless off field (senior leadership).

There are zero reasons to join apart from $.

It's only fair that now we're 18th on the ladder, I show the faith back in the club and do everything I can to put them in front. In the end, I'm stoked I made the decision to stay. I f***ing love this club”

I'm not one for giving up pick 2 & more, but these re-signings being 'only' 2 year extensions is a positive sign about Butters.  Cubs remain on average dough while Butters' contract is massively front ended from 2027-29.

which one of the Sydney 5 would anyone take here. Heeney is a no for obvious reasons (age) and i think he should stay anyway and fix that club up.

I would take Blakey in a heartbeat. Blakey and Butters sounds good to me.

Surely at least 3 leave.

As I posted on the other thread

I wouldn't be taking any of them. Why? because each player even though are not the person under investigation for the alleged sexual assault were on the room and allegedly did nothing to stop what was taking place. They may not end up being charged but they are still guilty.

So taking on any of them by extension is condoning their behaviour. Happy to call it guilty by association

Don't give poo if anyone agrees or not.

Your entitled to an opinion, even though its wrong.

WP you passed judgement on our greatest player to ever play for the RFC before you uncovered the facts. Why would you go there again?

i think those who are found guilty shouldn't be held in the same light as others who were merely present.

Either way for me Blakey would be a great get and exactly what we need. He can teach our kids what not to do now off field.

We took Pickett on ffs or have you forgotten? Lets give the kid a second chance.

Not sure WP ever passed judgment on Dusty and I think he has been clear on that on a number of occasions.

Anyway, I think the harm to our reputation would be nearly be as bad the harm caused to Sydney’s if we picked up one the five players involved. Sexual assault charges proven or not, paying a woman to snort cocaine off her body would most certainly put a number of sponsors off if we picked any of them up. And with a young crop of players, what message does that send to them?

If we burned a footballer every time he stuffed up then our national sport would have to be ping pong cause there wouldn’t be anyone left
