St Kilda and Adelaide back in 2020 tried to do a similar dodgy side deal with Brad Crouch so the Crows could still get the high compo FA pick and the AFL back then knocked it on the head.

Thinking about how Port get pick 5 which is a compensation pick for when a player who walks into the draft without a deal being struck and his previous club losing the player for nothing .
To then also find away 2 trade for a whole lot more( 2 first round picks) for a token close to delisted player will make a mockery of the draft and has nothing to do with salary dumping.

Geelong is always finding ways to scam the draft and if they were approved to the detriment to the other16 clubs , every club will do it and imagine what a farce the drafts will turn into .
Hopefully it’s just deceitful Callum Twomey  trying to flim flam the Geelong fan club within the AFL but they see it for what it is and ban it as cheating ( keep your cake and eat it too).

Twomey repeated it on 3aw.

Cal Twomey has provided insight on Zak Butters’ looming move and the compensation Port Adelaide will look to receive for the star midfielder.

The trade guru stated it’s a “two horse race” for the services of the 25-year-old.

“I think there is a way that Butters leaves as a free agent, and Port gets that pick (number five),” Twomey told Jimmy Bartel on Sports Today.

"A lot of moving parts.”

I'm on record as saying i don't want this bloke at Richmond. Also know I'm probably in the minority

But don't you think it's best to wait until the police investigation is over?

No I don't. I said blakey not Heeney.

I don't see any issue with him at all. Do you think it's anything worse than what Balta did? No it's not. I could be wrong but I very much doubt it.

He  and a few others have been treated very poorly by the swans and afl IMO.

I don't want him while the investigation is ongoing.

If he's cleared, that's another story.

This is the sort of player I would chase two of instead as an alternative to throwing the sink at Butters. Right age bracket, playing ability etc

Ironically the reason you don’t want him is the reason he wants to leave the Swans. They have trashed his name and the general public have just fallen for the press rhetoric.
I don’t think he’s perfect but if we want to zero in on the specifics of this case then there is a reasonable argument to say his club has chucked him under the bus.

And, it must be said, you WP have fallen for the 2 card trick of reading and falling for the press coverage.

The Swans imv have badly let down Blakey and they will feel the consequences of that.
"The money might have been better. But, at the end of the day, Richmond showed faith in me. It's only fair that now we're 18th on the ladder, I show the faith back in the club and do everything I can to put them in front. In the end, I'm stoked I made the decision to stay. I f***ing love this club”

What 2 card trick is that exactly?

He is currently being investigated along with 3 other teammates by the police for an alleged sexual assault. The only Swans player no longer being investigated is Bice, the remaining 4 are still under investigation.

That isn't media coverage that is the facts via a Media statement released by the police. Add the fact he chose to be out on the turps until the early hours of the morning and then chose to be in that room. Now if that upsets Nick I really dont give a pooh. He has contributed to "trashing" his name, suggest he owns it and take some responsibility for it rather than looking for someone to blame

And FWIW I've actually never been a fan of his as a player.

Victorian club urged to make late play for Brisbane star

Zero Hanger
September 3, 2026

Amid uncertainty surrounding the future of Brisbane star Zac Bailey, Richmond has been called on to make a late play for the two-time All-Australian.

The Tigers remain in the race for Port Adelaide free agent Zak Butters, but are viewed as the third horse in the running behind Geelong and the Western Bulldogs, despite the Punt Road club being believed to be putting forward more than $2 million per season for the Power midfielder.

With Richmond tipped to miss out on Butters, the AFL Trade Show's Mitch Keating believes the money set aside for the wantaway onballer should be put toward a last-minute bid for Bailey.

The premiership Lion is believed to be keen on staying in Queensland; however, the size of Adelaide's offer is understood to be turning his head.

With Richmond potentially able to blow both parties out of the water with a sizeable offer of their own, a play for Bailey 'would make sense' for the Tigers.

"Easier said than done, but it'd make sense if they looked at Zac Bailey, who wants to stay in Brisbane, but his head is being turned by money," Keating said.

"If [Richmond] have had this $2 million deal set aside for Zak Butters... you don't have to use all of that on Zac Bailey, but he'd be a perfect fit for Richmond as that mid-forward hybrid.

"He'd get a lot of good midfield minutes over the next couple of years, and then hand the keys over and act as that rotation player that he currently is.

"I think that'd be a great move for Richmond. But, again, it sounds like Adelaide or Brisbane for him, and they might be too late to make that call."

It’s Geelong, that trade is only unrealistic in that they are probably paying overs
