6 months older than butters &  on 1m+

Clearly a good player and fills a need but it's be interesting how people justify taking him on footballing grounds.

I would deduce that Blakey's new disaffection would indicate that he knows he is in the clear (criminally) and that the club has thrown him under the bus.

Just in terms of the 'buyer beware' warning from the AFL.

Can’t speak for others but assuming charges against him get dropped, for me the biggest difference between him and butters would be the asking price in a trade. Seemed like we were destined to give up 2 first rounders for butters but you could get Blakey for pennies on the dollars after recent events.

Also a salary of 1mil is a fair bit different to the 2ish mil we were gonna give butters.

Anyway I don’t expect us to be a leading contender for him if he is actually on the move.

Answer and question in the same sentence.

It's not complicated mate. He's a good player and not that old. Get him in if we can.

FWIW There are currently no charges against any of them

Please tell me how the Swans have thrown him under the bus?

He was suspended by his Club for being out on the turps until 4am in the morning and being in the room where who knows what went on. He can sook all he likes, demand a trade but facts are he made a choice, clearly a very bad one and he's copped (rightly) a whack for it at Club level

Perhaps if Nicky took some responsibility, accountability for his poor choice. You know own it rather than playing the PLOM card.

Come on WP, on paper they are suspended for being out late and drinking with women.

In reality, it's because of the circumstances that have led to the allegations. If there were no allegations or incidents they simply wouldn't have been suspended by their own club on the verge of a finals campaign, period.

That is how the Swans have thrown him under the bus from Blakey's perspective, and he appears confident that he'll be cleared by VicPol, which ultimately just leaves us with drinking after midnight heading into a week off.

Your points make sense, if a player breaks the rules around drinking it’s usually a fine and maybe a week or two suspension .
The club / AFL have by their silence  allowed the assumption of guilt. If Blakey is innocent it would be an appalling abuse of power imo by many organisations.

Breaking - The pick purchasing Dogs/Port move is set to be stopped by the AFL.

AFL wrote to clubs today, citing a little known change in 2025 that "top-up payments will not be approved" in a trade between clubs where a free agent has also switched clubs.

AFL clarifies 'pick purchasing' rules amid Dogs-Port talks on Butters - https://www.afl.com.au/news/1613309

This essentially means that the Power and Bulldogs could still do a trade deal for players - Todd Marshall for example - but if Zak Butters left as a free agent, then the Bulldogs would have to carry all of Marshall's wage and Port would not be able to contribute to it.
