Bring back reserves footy I say. The kids would then get a taste of playing in front of bigger crowds on 1st class grounds whilst they prepare to take the next step in their development. Also from a spectator point of view, I loved the reserve grade curtain raiser. They still do it in Rugby League. 3 grades every game and you feel like you get value for money also. :thumbsup

Here here Tiga.

Bring back the Ressies ASAP and make the TAC CUP an under 19 comp.

Let the VFL stand alone.

And where are clubs going to find the 500k+ to field a reserve team - when some of them are making million $$$ losses.
 ???

Would you make it for Victorian based clubs only or would you expect the interstate teams to field reserve teams too? ???

Where are all these teams going to play? Remembering we onlt have 3 venues in Victoria - MCG, Telstra Dome and Geelong. The telstra surface can barely cope with the traffic it gets now - there's no way anyone would allow curtain raisers to be played. Old VFL venues like Windy Hill, Whitten Oval or Arden Street - hmmmm in there current states I dont think so

A great idea from a traditionalist point of view but not practical I would have thought

Good questions Bill. I don't think we will see AFL reserves again, but from the spectators and clubs point of view it would be better if they did return.

Firstly, some of the money would be saved from current VFL alliance costs. Bad luck VFL clubs though. The VFL clubs are only surviving off the back of the AFL anyhow, and these days you must be able to support yourself or go under.  The rest of the funding would be difficult though.

Punt Rd, Optus, Geelong, Waverley, Windy Hill, Junction Oval, Moorabbin, Whitten. All of these grounds are suitable enough for AFL teams to train on, then they must be ok for AFL reserves for the games that are deemed to overload the 3 big grounds.

All AFL sides to have reserves and parallel fixtures.

We just Grollo to build a private stadium with proper grass.
