Next Captain
« on: June 30, 2004, 09:46:12 PM »
With Cambo sadly on his last legs  :'(  I would say we will have a new captain for 2005 to add to our new coach. Who'll get the nod?

I don't think Cogs will get it yet especially as he has missed heaps of footy this year due to his pelvic instability injury. I would make him VC for sure though. If our best player should be captain then the obvious choice is Browny. My other choice would be Kane Johnson.

The other thing we could do is rotate the captaincy although I'm not necessary a big fan of that idea. Works at St Kilda though.

Thoughts?

If we keep Gaspar I wonder if he'll get the nod...

Johnson and Coughlan would be my two options, but we really are lacking anyone very suitable at the moment.

Wouldn't be unhappy with Johnson or Cogs

My personally view is that Campbell will remain Captain for 2005 with Cogs, Johnson and Brown Vice captains.

However if I was going for a change it would be:

Captain - Johnson
V/Captains - Coughlan & Brown

Would go for Cogs, in an ideal world, but I don’t think he wants it and so is just not ready for it. :(  Hopefully, some other time soon at least.

I get the feeling the next Captain will be Johnson, with Brown VC.

Otto reckons Johnno will be captain

From the Sunday Herald Sun:

Ottens said he favoured Kane Johnson to be given the captaincy at Richmond.

"He's an experienced player and he's got the respect of the group," he said.

I don't see why Otto now cares about who should be our next captain ??? given he wanted out so badly. I see Otto's still kidding himself he needed a new club to find a new enviorment and form ::).

Anyway I'd reckon Johnson is a shoe-in as there's really no one else.

I think I read somewhere a while back it would be towards the end of pre-season training but I could be wrong there HT.

Expect the announcement just before the season proper - Tezza said at the THC function the other week that he wants to see how blokes go about showing leadership. Will trail a number of blokes pre-season.
