Club Corner - Aug 21

Greg Stafford

* When the ball comes down quickly and delivered well it makes your job so much easier. Ray Hall pushing up to the wing an example of our run.

* More unlikey than likely to play on but will sit down at the end of the year with the club. More mental at this stage. If the club said we wanted him to go on then he'd would seriously consider it but with the kids coming through he's aware of the youth direction of the club.

* Happy just to play so doesn't care either way if he gets a farewell game or not.

* Going forward we are good team. We've struggled at this time of year in the past so that's pleasing. 10 wins after 20 a fair result at where we at. Skill, pace and attitude the key behind the top clubs and our kids have those attributes.

* Talls make it easier for the midfielders to kick long to.

* 2006 - solid year with the key players we've lost and we've won the games we should have won. The young guys have stepped up - Polo, Raines, Lids and Blingers. Bright future ahead for them.

* He's played midfield most of the year and run with roles. If the coach is happy with you then you have to be happy.

* Getting more goals out of the midfield would be a bonus next year and beyond.

* Main focus for the group is to finish off the season well. We've got a good chance to finish with a couple of wins.

* Went a little bit overboard with the celebration of the goal and has coped some stick from the boys but it was his first goal so he was excited. Went against the team rules but it was late in the game so just went for it.

* Supporters enjoy the free flowing run and carry game rather than the chip chip. Dome allows more for that style of game.

* We set out to achieve finals  so can't make that but we've achieved the same number of wins as last year so if we can go past that then we've improved.

* Signature on the dotted line coming soon.

* Running game looks good for one side and not for the other so that's why we don't see it every week.

* Pleasing to win with that style with the players we've had out. Wasn't the best we've played but we did the job clinically which was pleasing.

* Whitnall running off early on was a concern but once we instructed the boys to get it in long and deep the tall forward line clicked into gear.

* Praised the coaching group - Wallace, Wheadon, Royal and Gordon Casey. Second to none at any club. Up to us to get the group following instructions. Confidence is a big thing as the skill level rises. Helps also when you are kicking goals. West Coast game will test our boys out so not getting carried away.

* Got a good base with the young kids and in a couple of years when we get more games into the them we'll be able to lauch to become a regular finals team.

* Needed to stick to our opponents early on then run off them as the game progressed.

* Richo and Staff were on fire. He was able to crumb one.

* Up and down topsy turvy year so trying to finish the year off well.

* Unfortunately we didn't play like this a month a go but good to finish off the season well and we look good when we run and play this free flowing footy.

Adam Potter - Coburg report

* Cass was the standout. Has pace when he has the footy and can deliver with skill at that pace.

* Hughes was also good. Started down back then pushed forward. Knobel went well too and works hard even at this level and teaches the young guys.

* Coburg will most likely play either Werribee or Frankston in the first week of the finals. Bullants being the top team will be a good preparation for the finals this week.

* Finals qualification - Everyone is available in the first week although there's the 12/10 rule. Howat, White and possibly Chaffey will be the only ones eligible after that if we progress.

* This week - vs Northern Bullants at Coburg City oval on Saturday arvo. So Richmond fans can make a day of it with Coburg playing during the day and the Essendon game at night.

* Good to have two big wins in a row. Also great to knock off the old enemy twice in one year. If we win next week which we plan to do then we've improved. Most pleasing thing is the progress of the kids.

* 2006 Off the field - fairly pleased with his own performance. Has deliberately kept a low profile but has become outspoken when needed over the special distribution money. AFL will extend the distribution to more clubs, we'll make a profit and the club is growing and improving both on and off-field. He gives us 6 to 7 out of 10 for the year and on the rise.

* Quite confident we'll get 9 home games at the 'G next year and then push the AFL to all 11 in the years to come. Home crowd average over 50,000 at the 'G and only second to Collingwood. Hopes supporters will stick by the club and we'll give them something really to cheer about in the next few years.
