Earning a UEFA Cup place would have helped cash wise. The Hammers' current board are sick and tired of West Ham being a feeder club from the Academy of Football to the wealthy bigger clubs.... Lampard, Ferninand, Joe Cole, etc... Whether they can hold on to their players in reality is another question.

West Ham 'can be bigger than Chelsea'

Businessman Kia Joorabchian claims West Ham have the potential to overtake Chelsea and Manchester United to become the biggest club in England by 2013.

The man who brought Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano from Corinthians to Upton Park has already insisted there are no plans to offload them at the end of the season.

There has been speculation both players will leave for Chelsea or Manchester United with Joorabchian - having agreed a sell-on clause with West Ham - making a tidy profit.

However Joorabchian has been strongly linked with a takeover at West Ham, and the club have confirmed to the stock exchange they have been involved in 'exploratory discussions' with regard to a change of ownership.

Georgian businessman Badri Patarkatsishvili, a friend of Joorabchian, has confirmed his interest.

Georgian tycoon in Hammers takeover bid

Georgian businessman Badri Patarkatsishvili has revealed he is considering investing in a potential bid for West Ham.

The Hammers yesterday confirmed to the stock exchange they have been involved in 'exploratory discussions' with regard to a possible takeover of the club.

Kia Joorabchian, the Iranian-born businessman who orchestrated the transfer of Argentina internationals Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano to West Ham, has been strongly linked with the bid.

And a spokesman for Patarkatsishvili revealed last night: 'It is true that Kia Joorabchian is my friend and we have done business together in the past.

'At this time I am not involved in any possible bid for West Ham but I am thinking about it and cannot exclude such a possibility in the future.'

West Ham in 'exploratory' takeover talks

West Ham have had 'exploratory discussions' about a possible takeover of the club but insist talks are at an early stage.

Kia Joorabchian's company, Media Sport Investment, have been linked with a takeover of the Hammers.

Joorabchian made an investment in Corinthians in December 2004, with Argentinian duo Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano leaving the Sao Paulo side and arriving at Upton Park from the Brazilian club yesterday.

A statement to the Stock Exchange from West Ham read: 'The board confirms that it has had exploratory discussions in relation to a possible bid but these discussions are at a very early stage and there can be no certainty that an offer for West Ham will be forthcoming.
