Coaching axe looms for Denis Pagan
04 September 2006   Herald-Sun
Mike Sheahan

THE push for change at Carlton is gathering strength, with credible sources confidently tipping Barry Mitchell to replace Denis Pagan within weeks.

Pagan and Geelong's Mark Thompson both appear to have a tenuous hold on their jobs.

The Blues are broke and will receive charity from the AFL yet they want to pay out a $1.2m contract  ::). They are the 21st century equivalent of us during the 80's - a totally basketcase.

I had a Carlton supporter ask me the score on the way home from the game on Saturday and he wanted Big Jack back lol. He was totally peeed off that Collo had moved them to the Dome. Not happy campers over there  ;D.

As the cliche goes

With friends like the Carlton Board Denis Pagan doesn't need enemies

How foolish is Mitchell - and Gleeson for that matter - actually just make that the entire Carlton board.

What a rabble - it just warms my heart it really does  :rollin

LOL

No one could do any better with their list. The Blues are so much like we were it's scary. Pagan must really love now knowing his assistants are waiting to roll him. What a disgrace. I've got alot of time for Pagan via the old U19s. He went to Carlton to help out the club he barracked for as a kid and this is how they treat him. Yep WP a total rabble  ;D

It just keeps getting worse for the poor old bluebaggers :lol. The Carlton president and board wanted Pagan gone but they wimped it. Now recent past players still want him gone. Basketcase Blues  ;D.

Anyone passing a brown paper bag containing $600,000 under the desk? :rollin.

-------------------------------

Brown still in favour of Pagan exit
Stephen Rielly
September 8, 2006

FRASER Brown, the former Carlton premiership midfielder who was prepared to bankroll much of the million-dollar payout that would have been required to remove Denis Pagan as coach of the Blues, said yesterday the sacking still needed to take place.

Brown, neither committing to nor ruling out a board challenge to have Pagan's near dismissal on Tuesday night realised, also said that a consortium of former players remain behind Stephen Kernahan and Adrian Gleeson, the directors and former players who first recommended that Pagan be dismissed but who were, he says, ultimately betrayed.

After the Carlton board voted 7-3 on Monday night to remove Pagan, the coach was granted the last two years of his contract less than 24 hours later when, at a second meeting, a majority of directors opposed the appointment of assistant coach Barry Mitchell.

Brown said it was his understanding that if Mitchell had been appointed, four other former players — Brett Ratten, Peter Dean, Craig Bradley and Greg Williams — would have joined him as assistants in a coup designed to reclaim some of the identity many believe the club has lost in Pagan's time.

Brown said the first decision ought to have been kept with, even if the club did not want to appoint Mitchell, for it now condemns Carlton to what he says will be "two years of travelling in neutral, if not reverse".

"I'm not saying I'm a football expert. Kernahan and Gleeson are the blokes on the inside who know what's really going on. They came up with the decision (to remove Pagan) and I was supporting their judgement. I would back them any day, because I respect them and I respect their football credentials. The rest of the board's got no idea," Brown said.

Hmmm... Fraser would back 'em any day (Sticks & Gleeson) ....... well they decided to keep Pagan goose but you still want him (Pagan) sacked so in actual fact you cannot support Stick & Gleeson now can you?  :rollin

As for the rest of the board having no idea -that's probably true but if Fraser was still playing and there was a paper bag on offer I'm sure Mr Multimillionaire would take it no questions asked  :rollin :rollin

This is the best footy story going around - poor carlton and their now tragic existence :ROTFL :ROTFL :ROTFL

Certainly brings a tear to ones eyes  :yep :nope :nope :nope :ROTFL :jump

That's what's so hilarious about all this. The Carlton board are taking advice from those who brought that club to its knees in the first place.  Freaking idiots :stupid  :rollin

Fraser Brown is now going to challenge Carlton's board. This is better than Days of our Lives  ;D.

Carlton challenge
10 September 2006   Sunday Herald Sun
Ken Piesse and Scot Palmer

FORMER Carlton star Fraser Brown says he is considering taking part in a challenge to the Blues board at the upcoming elections.

Brown said yesterday the Blues board was a shambles and needed an immediate overhaul.

In more drama for the embattled Blues:

DENIS Pagan looked on yesterday as assistant coach Barry Mitchell, overlooked for the senior job this week, coached Northern Bullants to victory in the VFL finals.

FORMER captain Brett Ratten has put up his hand up for a return to the Blues in a coaching role next season.

CLUB vice-president Stephen Kernahan launched a stinging attack on several members of the media at the Blues' best and fairest night.

FORMER Blues onballer Daniel Harford said Mitchell had been hung out to dry by Carlton, and could fulfil Pagan's senior role "on his ear".

CLUB vice-president Stephen Kernahan launched a stinging attack on several members of the media at the Blues' best and fairest night.

Saw this on After the Game. Kernahan got up and said Caro just makes things up, Jake Naihl (sp?) only wants Caro's job at the Age and Hutchy spends his time on front laws perving. Then he said "We're Carlton and eff the rest!". So much for losing that arrogant attitude that got them into a mess in the first place  :wallywink.

Threats of petitions and EGMs at the Blues too. We were trendsetters lol.

Fraser Brown plans Smorgon coup
22 September 2006   Herald-Sun
Jim Wilson and Damian Barrett

CARLTON president Graham Smorgon is under increasing pressure to step down before the Blues' December elections.

A group, which includes premiership player Fraser Brown, intends delivering Smorgon the ultimatum: resign or be hit with a no-confidence motion at an extraordinary general meeting.

Ah Carlton - players leaving in droves, the coach under fire, the board flip flopping and under threat, a basket case admin, wooden spoons, etc .... Apart from that they're doing okay  ;D.

Carlton 2000s = Richmond 1980s.
