Just saw the latest rumours on bigfooty lol, has Ashley Prescott supported the drafting of Caleb Mourish or is it bulldust. From my perspective I aint seen the kid so I wouldnt know, but our supporters do get nervous when they see names that havent been mentioned alot and Caleb Mourish is one such name. From what I know the kid has played for Prescotts mob over there....anyone have anything further as to whether or not the kid can play?

Plays ruck rover for Towns FC in the Great Northern FL (Geraldton). They won the premiership this year and he was named 4th best. Hardly anything about him on the net except that he it looks like he played all year there whereas Prescott coached Claremont didn't he?

Weaver on BF gives the reason why his name has come up. Cox, Ryder and McPharlin had similar circumstances.

I'd be concerned if we went again for a speculative type with our second round pick like we did with Gilmour  .

Mourish is getting seriously pushed by some, even seen his name placed at pick 8 in the national draft lol...which is our pick  . Anyway who knows, I dont have a problem with it if the boy can play, if he can play we pick him...then gotta support the kid.

If he's that good then he should go before our pick. There's too much talent in this draft to outsmart ourselves trying to be too clever. A bit like talk in 2004 of us going for some unknown kid with our pick 4.

A bit more info after doing some searching:

Calib Mourish - 194cm (weight?) 18 year old who "can run like the wind, has a great leap and is a good kick and contested mark" so has been likened to Goodes and Franklin although there's alot of people making assessments of Mourish without ever seeing him play or just based on East Freo colts game. His dad was 6' 3" (190cm), 95-100kg mobile big man who apparently kicked 12 goals against the Roos in a scratch match in 1978. Calib is developing a similar build but is allegedly a bit quicker.

On a WA footy forum his name was mentioned in the GNFL as early as 2003 (would have been 15 then and playing seniors country footy ). In the past two years he has played with Towns FC. Mainly at full forward last year but moved into the ruck and ruck roving roles when Towns' first ruck missed through injury. Sheeds showed interest in him (maybe through talking to young bomber Pat Ryder who played up there). To qualify for the AFL draft Mourish played one WAFL Colts game with league leader East Freo (Geraldton is in EF's zone) and kicked 5 goals against second last South Freo (see below). So now the word is out.

Mourish isn't participating in the AFL draft camp nor WA state screenings so that's the risk. Callum Burgess was an example where the risk didn't pay off. In phantom drafts (albeit by those who haven't seen enough of him) Mourish is ranked from a low as our first pick (#8) up to our second pick (#26).

There had been plenty of hype surrounding Mourish over the past few weeks, with suggestions that Essendon’s AFL coach Kevin Sheedy was interested in drafting the young forward. Mourish was one of the best players in the first half on Sunday but rested in the second due to his commitments with East Fremantle

i think this kid may be a gun, and sheedy is up 2 something , hiding the boy , thats why he isnt going to draft camp.  if he is a goodes type he is worth the risk. from reading above he has height and speed, a deadly mix

Presumably Miller would have seen him play but it's a huge risk to pick up a youngster who won't be attending any official camps or screenings with your top 10 pick especially in a supposedly strong draft. Maybe take the risk with a second round pick especially if we can trade for another. Essendon already have two second rounders with their PP.

Had to be looking at someone, maybe this kid is the one?

Who knows. Plenty of footy players over there.

According to BF, Richmond as well as Essendon, Freo, Pies and Hawks all sent scouts to watch Mourish since his East Freo Colts game. We apparently have been watching him since well before the Colts game too.

who cares about draft camp. draft camp means fa, plenty of good kids out there who dont make it to camp, one has to look outside the square, if the kid has the potential, its no less a risjk than picking up a kid from teh camp, all have potential. if this boy can run, kick, mark i say go 4 him

True Ramps. Still it's interesting he didn't get an invite to even the WA state screenings with so much interest. Seems each AFL club thought they were the only ones that knew about him lol.
