Enforcer wanted: apply at Punt Road
« on: October 21, 2006, 03:28:31 AM »
WP mentioned in another thread that we need to get some mongrel into the team. Staff made opponents around him "nervous" lol but his best years were behind him before he came to Richmond and he's now gone. Freezer and Scotty Turner in different ways were probably our last true enforcers but that was over 10 years ago  :P.

Where can we find our next enforcer(s)? Not a thug like a Stephen Baker at the Saints but someone with skill and leadership too like a Riccuito. Is that sort of player on our list already (Polo?) or do we need to find one in the draft?

Something I have wanted to see at Richmond for some time. Bit early to tell with the kids, as they probably need a couple of years to fill out and grow into their bodies.
I could see someone like Jay schulz, if he can generate a bit of mongrel stepping into this kind of roll. Watching Polo at Coburg and then burst onto the scene, with his attitude could also be a posibility.
I would like to see lids take the next step and start to bust open games ala Judd, he can do it and he needs to step it up again next year.
As for drafts, I aint that deep into footy so I will leave it up to the experts to Hypothesize over who may be out there.  :thumbsup

It's funny I was watching a tape of the game against the Pies from this year and there was an instance where Pudgy Rocca up ended one Richard Tambling. Tambling flew to his feet and started in on Pudge :rollin Quite priceless. I think they younger blokes have no fear

I've always thought that Foley wont take a backward step and I reckon Matt white is the same.

I think it's up to a Jay Schulz or a Adam Pattison to step into the Stafford role though

I reckon Danny Meyer is a bit of a goer from what i've seen.

I don't think Polo is going to be a mouthy, sniper type player, but just a tough hard nut who opposition teams will really respect.

I agree about Tambling, the thing I liked about last year was him getting up from the bottom of a pack and giving the umpire a mouthful on a few occasions.
And you may not think I care for you

Puff Puff is so tough he comes from behind when the play has stopped and tackles a 19 year old to the turf  ::). You break collarbones doing that sort of thing. That's why Blingers flew to his feet :thumbsup.
