Player review: 30. Richard Tambling
« on: November 10, 2006, 02:41:41 AM »
Blingers played 21 matches in his second year of AFL footy following 12 games last year. He averaged 12 disposals and 4 marks in 2006 up from 9 disposals and 3 marks in 2005. He also kicked an inaccurate 14.19 which put him 5th in terms of scoring shots at Richmond this season.

How did we rate Tambling's year and where will be his best playing position in 2007?

Some of his inside midfield movement was outstanding- getting in and out of packs from the middle- didnt do it alot but the times I saw him do it it was Kerr/Judd esque type stuff.

Tambo will make it, will be a star, our problem isnt if he takes the next step rather itll be our ability to keep him long term.

Not every young player gets home sick, I remember reading that Blingers couldn't wait to get to Melbourne.

I like this season that his confidence and aggressiveness grew.

Early on I was a little concerned that he may be a little..... soft...

No she is from Darwin as well.

I certainly wouldn't worry about him wanting to go anywhere - he's happy likes Melb

Blingers is still a year or two away but the Geelong game showed what he is capable of and it seemed to add more confidence to his game. Another game where he was impressive in parts was against the Doggies in round 18. He only got 10 possies overall but he got us back into the game in that second quarter with his blistering pace and ballwinning abilities when it looked like we were on track for another hiding from the dogs.

He'll continue to get bagged by Hawk fans and compared to Franklin even though they a completely different footballers  ::) but I'm very happy with Tambo's progress so far.

Steady improvement. Finally coming to grips with the tempo of AFL footy.

Thought the defense side of his game picked up as the year went on, although he still has a lot of work to do in this area. Needs to put more pressure on the opposition when they have the ball. I reckon he needs to use his speed not only as an attacking weapon but defensively as well i.e run down blokes  :thumbsup

2007 - I reckon he'll spend more time in the mid-field and he should aim for 20-30 goals as a crumber :thumbsup

Long term gonna be real good :clapping

He'll be great so long as he doesn't adopt the "lazy" attitude - dare I say it - some Aboriginal footballers seem to take.

I didn't realise Petts and Joel prior to 2005 were indigenous  :wallywink.

Wallace wouldn't tolerate lazy footballers whether black, white or pink with purple spots. Polak and Kingsley probably finding that out the hard way at the moment. Our youngsters are building up a good reputation of being hard workers as well as talented :clapping.

The laziest ever Tiger - Lounder. Only ever FF to lean up against the goalpost while waiting for the ball to come down his end lol.

Whilst i only rated him a 6 I think he's the next Andrew McLeod in the making.
There were enough glimpses this year to see that this kid is a gamebreaker. Confidence is the key.

Watch the improvement in 07.
