Who do guys think is the best ump?

Peers vote Schmitt best

AFL umpire Justin Schmitt has been voted the league's best by his peers.

The AFL Umpires' Association held a ballot in which a record number of whistle-blowers voted for the top field, goal and boundary umpires.

AFLUA chief executive Bill Deller said yesterday the criteria for voting was not restricted to an umpire's on-field performance.

"The criteria is basically for someone who has made a contribution to the well-being of the association but has also made progress in his career on the field," he said.

"So they vote on things other than just straight out umpiring, but someone who also does a little bit off the field to help umpiring and the umpires' association in particular. The field umpires vote for the field umpires, the boundary umpires for the boundary and the goal umpires for the goal umpires."

As much as he likes making silly comments to players on camera while umpiring, I don't mind Darren Goldspink. Gets it right most of the time (I might be taking these words back next year though if we get screwed lol). Brett Allen isn't too bad either. Scotty Mclaren was pretty good to us this year which is a nice change.

You should watch some old replays, Moi.  ;D
Some baffling decisions/non decisions were made because the one ump was at the other end of the ground to the play.

Matthew James seems to be the players' favourite. Didn't make the squad for the finals though. For me, Brett Allen. Who cares?  ;D
