Mondogreens
« on: November 25, 2006, 01:35:46 PM »
Caught a bit of Spicks & Specs yesterday and they had some mondogreens on (for those who don't know, a mondogreen is a misheard lyric).

Found this fabulous site and have spent the last hour laughing my head off.

www.kissthisguy.com

Here's a selection to get started:-

Band Aid: Do They Know It's Christmas Time
The real lyrics were:
The greatest gift they'll get this year is life.

But I misheard them as:
The only gift they'll get this year is flies.

Joni Mitchell: Big Yellow Taxi
The real lyrics were:
They paved Paradise, and put up a parking lot.

But I misheard them as:
A gay pair of guys put up a parking lot.

National Anthems: Advance Australia Fair
The real lyrics were:
Australians all, let us rejoice,
For we are young and free!

But I misheard them as:
Australians all eat sausages.
Four minus one is three.

Queen: Killer Queen
The real lyrics were:
She keeps a Moet et Chandon
in a pretty cabinet

But I misheard them as:
She keeps a mower and a shotgun
in a pretty cabinet

Anyone got some others they want to share?

Actual: Our Land is girt by sea

Misheard: And sand is dirt by sea

From that 70's song "Blinded by the Light", I still wouldn't know what that deuce line is.

Isn't it a car?  Lots of people think the song refers to a douche - lol

One I read today:-
Song: That Don't Impress Me Much
Artist: Shania Twain

The real lyrics were:
I can't believe you kiss your car goodnight.

But someone misheard them as:
I can't believe you kiss your carving knife.

Ouch!

That Julz reminds me of another lyric I still wouldn't have a clue about - "pass the douche(?) on the left hand side"

Sorry to get all Glen.A Baker on you guys but it's
"blinded by the light, wrapped up like a deuce, another runner in the night"
The song was actually written by Bruce Springsteen. I have no idea what it means though .Bruce might have been on the sauce at the time.

Here are a few of my favorites

Seal, Kiss from a rose.

It is: To me you're like a growing addiction that I can't deny

I heard: To me your like a groin, a dictionary can't be right.

Pointer Sisters, We are Family

It is: We are family

I heard: Three car family

Here is a funny one someone else told me

Chumbawumba, Tubthumping

It is: I get knocked, down but I get up again, You're never gonna keep me down.

They heard: I've got no towell, but I've got underpants, so I really don't need a towell.  :lol

Not a Mondogreen, but I wish Lou could think up a better word than "head" in "but she never lost her head"
Because the next line sounds awkward.

Candy came from out on the island
in the backroom she was everybody's darling
But she never lost her head
even when she was given head

She says, hey babe, take a walk on the wild side
said, hey babe, take a walk on the wild side
and the coloured girls go ... whatever they go lol

He coulda done better but I can't think of anything  :rollin

For some reason I thought an alternative name for these were "mountain tops". Does anyone recall this?

When I was a kid I used to sing along to the beach boys "Help Me Rhonda", but for some reason I thought it was "Hep Meronder"...not that i knew what that meant..I think I thought it was about someone called "Hep".
