Footy fans in Phillip Island will have the opportunity to meet the Richmond Football Club during their 2007 Telstra AFL Community Camp.

The AFL today announced the locations for the 2007 Telstra AFL Community Camps. The Tigers will visit Phillip Island, Wonthaggi, Kilcunda, Bass, Dayleston, Inverloch, Leongatha and Kurrumburra from Sunday February 4 to Wednesday February 7 and will conduct training sessions, visit schools, nursing homes and hospitals, conduct NAB AFL Auskick clinics and community football forums for local coaches and administrators.

Hopefully they'll have a intra-club game down there like we did last year at Learmonth.

Sounds like there won't be a intra-club game this time around unless we get some badly needed rain  .

The Mornington Peninsula ovals situation is typical of problems across the state, with the litigation threat posed by the drought to possibly force the abandonment of entire football seasons.

Other AFL clubs likely to face oval restrictions during community camps include Geelong (Swan Hill), Melbourne (Wangaratta) and Richmond (Phillip Island).

Like Steph im only 10 mins from Cranbourne so im leaving work early getting kids out of school and going there.
Ferring, its on Friday 16th Feb. 3.30-4.00pm (not sure) at Casey Feilds.

The AFL's Community Camp program saw Richmond head to Phillip Island this year and the Tigers have certainly been busy since they arrived in the region on Monday.

In addition to their own training session, the players have hosted NAB AFL Auskick Superclinics, a fan training session, community forums and made appearances at schools and hospitals on and around the island.

Tiger veteran Joel Bowden is no stranger to such things having won the 2006 AFL Community Leadership Award for his work with various charities in the community and he felt the camps were beneficial to both the players and the local residents.

"It gives you an appreciation that a little visit or a little thing that you can do, can bring a lot of joy to other people," he said from the team hotel in Cowes.

It hasn't been all work and no play for the Richmond boys, however, with the club organising some surfing and a go-kart session on the local racetrack. Not that Bowden was, in any way, shape or form, interested in jumping in one of the souped-up karts.

"I wouldn't be going in a go-kart at 100 miles per hour because if I fall out of that thing I don't think I'd be playing footy for a while," he said with a wry smile.

Richmond's three-day visit winds up with an intra-club practice match at Wonthaggi Football Club on Wednesday afternoon.
