Injured Tigers update
« on: December 06, 2006, 01:49:19 PM »
Cogs (knee) - still has his right knee taped/strapped up but did join in and complete the rehab group's training including 100m runs/sprints.

He was interviewed by some journo in the grandstand afterwards and he said that he was on or just ahead of schedule to where he and the medical/training staff thought he be. Hopes to get back into full training in around 2 months time. Ideally would love to be back for round 1 but he isn't going to set a date. Learnt from Gas' experience a couple of years ago and his own when he was too eager to get back into footy with his groin problems. One blessing in disguise was the layoff due to his knee has helped his groin/pelvic region. The rest seems to have done it the world of good.

Cogs also spoke about how wanting team success becomes more important as you mature. We haven't played finals since his first year at the club.

Thursty (knee) - Like Cogs did the rehab group's training. However he had no strapping or anything on his knee which is promising.

Newy (leg) - He was at training but I didn't see him do anything. Nothing on his leg in terms of support and he was walking around.

Harts - In the rehab group as well. I didn't notice anything visible wrong and he was quite jovial while running. It didn't look like his foot was causing him any distress.

Simmo - Likewise I don't know why he was in the rehab group. Perhaps in Simmo's case he could be just taking it cautiously over preseason so fluid doesn't build up in his knee.

Sorry Darth, I didn't see JON. I missed the first 30 mins or so of training.

Here's the interview Cogs did yesterday at training:

Coughlan in good shape

Paul Gough
Sportal for afl.com.au

"I couldn’t do too much early (in the pre-season) but I am getting into the running now and I started kicking about two weeks ago," he told Sportal.

"And hopefully post-Christmas I will be able to join in with the rest of the group."

"I am probably a bit smarter now when it comes to injury and knowing how to handle it, mentally as well," he said.

"So it doesn't really bother me whether it's round one or even round five (when he returns) as long as I get through the majority of the season."

"I am almost at 90 games now and haven't looked like playing a final," he said.

"When you get to my age you realise it's not a lot of fun being around a footy side when you are not playing in the finals so we have got to do that this year."

This quote might get a couple of tongues wagging given Cogs is coming out of contract even though he was just explaining how much the whole side wanted to succeed next year.

Re: Injured Tigers update - Sarge did his hammy at training.

I mentioned Newy, Cogs and Thursty is the training report but I'll post some more here:

Newy - Got through the whole session including the two quarter full scale practice match. We were all surprised to see him out there. Seemed to move freely and there wasn't any obvious limp or anything as far as I saw. Played on Hartigan on a wing as well as as a loose man in defence. He didn't get much footy but any demons were laid to rest when ball spilt loose and he gathered then barged his way through a surrounding pack before dishing off a handball.

Cogs and Thursty - Both joined in the run and carry drills then spent another hour or so doing 100m sprint repetitions along the boundary line. Thursty had just a compression bandage around his knee. Both seem to be running freely.

Hyde, Hall, JON and Petersen - did handball relfex drills for about 30mins or so before leaving. JON reportedly has shin splints but I'm not sure what's wrong with the others.

Schulz - hammy. He was looking good in the drills too which is a shame. About 5 minutes into the practice game he lead to the pocket and was open for the pass then twang as he grabbed the back of his thigh and gave out a yell of frustration. Went down the race and about 20 minutes later he came out of the race limping with a thigh bandage on and sat the remainder of the session on the bench.
