So much for the rain we were supposed to get  :banghead

Web cam of Mount Buller - pretty smokey at the moment.  Feels pretty goulish to post a web cam, but no doubt many are looking.

That'll teach you to test fate Moi :rollin.

It bucketed down where we are. Hopefully the rain reached where the fires are.

Great to see on the news that the heavy rain saved Mt Buller.

The fires around Mt Buller have whipped up again and the news tonight said it reached the summit but thankfully it's not near the township. Also some lowlife has deliberately started a blaze in the picturesque Kinglake area >:(.

Fires cause massive power cut
Matthew Schulz
Breaking news: Herald-Sun
January 16, 2007 04:31pm

MORE than 500,000 Victorian homes and businesses have been blacked out after bushfires in the north-east cut a vital power link.

Details are so far sketchy, but it is understood a main electricity supply line between Victoria and New South Wales was tripped by intense heat and smoke from the fires at 4.04pm this afternoon.

Bushfire damage to the line had slashed 2000 megawatts of the State's 9000 megawatt needs an SP Ausnet spokeswoman Louisa Graham said.

The power cuts affected homes and business throughout the state.

Alinta spokesman Shannon Walker estimated 150,000 of its customers were without power from the southern suburbs in the Mornington Peninsula to the western suburbs of Sunbury were without power.

"And we're just one of five electricity companies in Victoria," Mr Walker said.

Powercor and CityPower's media manager Damien Batey said 257,000 customers of the two companies had lost power.

Affected towns included Mildura and surrounding towns, half of Geelong, and large parts of Bendigo and Ballarat.

The power went out at the gym today around that time. Though I'm in the SE Suburbs :-\

We've been lucky so far we haven't lost any power (in the SE suburbs too). Thwaites was on the radio news update saying power restrictions could be introduced.

I found out our power at home went out when I was at the gym, it's only 5 minutes up the road so it makes sense.

Power restrictions :help
