Wallace on 5AA
« on: December 21, 2006, 10:20:31 AM »
Terry was on lat night on 5AA.  Here's a couple of things:

Recruiting:  Trying to get balance is what it’s all about.  Thinks it’s a running game nowadays.

Intends to play Polak down back initially, although he has the ability to play either end.  We’ve had an undersized backline over the last couple of years.  Thinks they’re the hardest position to actually find a backman.

Team fit and well.  We’re pleased with progression at this stage of the year.  In his two years, we’ve gone slowly mounting our way up the list with 16th prior to him arriving.  Twelfth in his first year, and then 9th last year.  So if we’re to continue that improvement graph, we’ve got to be looking top 8.

Thinks Cogs will be almost ready to start at the start of the year, with probably a month playing at next level down, making sure he gets his confidence up and running.

Nathan Brown - hasn’t missed a training session thru the whole of the summer.  He’s back fit, well and got a bit of his touch of arrogance about him.

Jack Riewoldt  - key position, mostly forward and we’ll start him off as a forward.  Played already against men in Tassie in VFL comp.  Not as athletic as his cousin.  When he was playing under 18s footy, he’s the sort of bloke that rips the heart out of the game and we hope he can have that competitive attitude and bring that to the club.

Tackling help with Melbourne Storm  - more about balance and how to lock the tackles away.  More technique than anything else.

Rule changes with hands in the back - hasn’t done a lot on it pre-Xmas, but we’ve had the umpires down explaining it to the boys and post Xmas we’ll have the umpires virtually every session.  Comfortable with principle of the fact that we don’t want a double movement - hands out for one and then hands up for a mark.  He’s comfortable with that fact but reckon it’s going to be tough to adjudicate it, and will be some very very angry supporters out there.

Evenness of the comp - he’d have Adelaide well clear on top.  Thinks the last two years have just go things go wrong at the wrong time.  Best side last two years but haven’t been best in September.  They’re the ones that are hungry and the ones to beat.

Danny Meyer - progressing.  He’s come back and understand how much you’ve got to work at AFL level.  Done it more on natural skills and has an abundance of that.  Taken a couple of years to understand AFL footy, but his ranking in club is in top 12 in preseason work and has improved in those areas.

Cleve Hughes developing as a KPP.

On new kids - by 4th year, they’ve got to be performing at AFL level on a regular basis and performing well.

Tambo - one of our best performed player in our game sets in simulating match type activity and he’s been the standout in that respect over summer.  Developed body - in 3rd year and hoping for big things this year.

Kent Kingsley - easy decision.  If you can keep adding goal kickers, keeps making you a threat to the opposition and it gets somebody out of a loop somewhere along the line.  He’s kicked 9 goals in a NAB cup game, 8 goals in a round 2 match this year, so has the ability that only 2 or 3 blokes at our club have got.  With a fresh opportunity, he thinks he can add something.

Ben Hart - was he ever discussed to coming to the Tiges.  We spoke to him and said we’d love to have him coming to our club.  But after letting Andrew Kellaway go, thought he would have been strung up from the Richmond Town Hall if he'd done that.  If it had have been any other year, he would have progressed the talks a bit further.

Sad that Fox Footy has gone.  Doesn’t have any mail on what will happen with Fox, but latest mail is it won’t happen.

Thanks for that Moi  :cheers. Hard to disagree with anything Plough said from watching training. Interesting he's put sort of a time limit on the young guys. Last chance for Moore, Jacko and Hartigan based on that.

5AA would have been happy with Plough talking up the Crows. Terry knows how to suck up to the locals lol.

As for the rule changes - we'll all be pulling our hair out when Lloyd gets even more soft frees from diving  :scream.

I was horrified with his thinking on Ben Hart.  Apart from the Andy angle, we just don't want to go down that track.
I really thought Terry had his head screwed on that way about developing a group of kids within a certain age bracket, but appears not.  Why would you do it?   :banghead

Moi,

Sorry I was being obtuse.  But as 5AA is an Adelade station maybe TW was talking about Ben Hart isuch a Positive fashion as the interview was for Adelaide.

Never hurts to stir the pot.  I.e. Adelaide you let him go to early.

I didn't hear the interview so can't comment on the level of candour, but I wouldn't put it past TW to say what the interviewers wanted to hear in this case rather than what he really felt.  Just my spin on it.

As MT said, he was sucking up to them big time lol
But even so, he would know it would be reported in Melbourne - so why stir the pot?

Moi,

Fair point.  I'm just speculating.  I can't truly imagine TW countenancing a player that age.  It just goes against everything that was said at times like the pre-draft night.

We did recruit Mark Graham when Wallace first arrived but now there was no need to go down that path  ???. Hart has premiership experience but he was only playing as a third defender like Chubba towards the end of his career and not KP. Time had passed both by.

For Adelaide consumption ?????

5AA is as paroachial as they come so you could be right HKT. Meyer and Hughes are our Adelaide boys that they would be keeping an eye on. Just out of curiosity was there any reason why Plough was interviewed about Richmond by a Adelaide radio station?

No apparent reason why - maybe their listeners were a touch bored with what was happening locally, which would be pretty understandable lol
