Selectors will trim the squad to 28 in time for the February clash. The players are expected in Darwin on February 7 and will train under McLean on Thursday night.

Tiger Tambling adds his name to growing All-Stars list

RICHMOND follower and former Southern Districts utility Richard Tambling has thrown his hand into the All-Stars selection basket.

A former NT Thunder under-18 captain and Jabiru's greatest sporting product, 20-year-old Tambling would like nothing better than to run on to TIO Stadium for the February 9 game against Kevin Sheedy's Essendon.

``I couldn't wish for anything more, in fact I put my name up at the end of last season to play in the game,'' Tambling said. ``I just want to find out who is in the team and hopefully my name will be there, then get a trip home to play for the All-Stars again.

``It's a pretty good thing to be involved in as any of the players will tell you.''

Tambling overcame hamstring and foot problems that ruined his 2005 season to play 21 games with the 2006 Tigers.

``Last year was pretty good,'' he said. ``I got my body right and injuries to a minimum and played 21 games, which was a good result for me.''

The No. 4 pick at the 2004 national draft, Tambling played 12 games in his debut AFL season.
A member of the 2005 All-Stars side that beat the Western Bulldogs, Tambling has not played in Darwin since that game.

``It's always excellent playing up there and particularly with the All-Stars, hopefully I can get another chance,'' Tambling said.

Three Essendon players have been honoured with selection in the Indigenous All Stars side that will play Essendon in Darwin on Friday, February 9th. Paddy Ryder, Andrew Lovett and Nathan Lovett-Murray have been included in a superbly talented side that will provide an extreme early season test for a young Essendon team.

The game will be played at TIO Stadium, Marrara at the completion of Essendon’s community camp which is taking place in Darwin between Tuesday, February 6th and Friday, February 10th. Essendon will not finalise its squad until the week of the game.

The 2005 All-Stars

The 2007 Indigenous All Stars game against Essendon is to be broadcast live on ABC television and the National Indigenous Radio Network (NIRS).

The ABC will broadcast the game through the Northern Territory on its main channel from 11:30pm local time and also provide a live national broadcast on ABC2, its free to air digital channel from 7:00pm local time.

In addition, ABC radio will provide a full call of the last quarter of the match once the cricket one-day international broadcast has concluded.

NIRS Radio will broadcast the game live in full from 6.30pm to 9.30pm local time (8pm to 11pm AEST) with the broadcast to be fed live through afl.com.au for those listening via the internet.

The All-stars match will start at 7.05pm local time (8.35pm AEST) at TIO Stadium in Darwin.

I have read that Bling is starting on the wing, and Krak on the bench. Also Goodes and O'Loughlin have pulled out. These guys should give the bombouts the mother of all hidings!

As long as they don't get injured it's good experience for them playing alongside Macleod and co.

Goodes, O'Loughlin, Wirrpanda and Sampi have all pulled out of the Allstars game as has Buddy Franklin with a "a slight nick behind a knee". So both Blingers and Krak should now get a starting possie on the ground.

Richmond's Richard Tambling wants his appearance for the All-Stars team tonight to be a springboard for a breakthrough AFL season.

The 20-year-old from the Northern Territory, the No. 4 pick overall in the 2004 draft, has bulked up over summer and also honed his midfield skills against teammates such as Tigers captain Kane Johnson, one of the toughest defensive onballers in the AFL.

"I've put on a bit of weight, I'm a bit stronger and I have had a full pre-season under my belt, so I'm quite happy with the way it's gone," Tambling said.

"Hopefully tomorrow night is the start of it becoming a good year altogether."

The Tigers need Tambling to develop quickly as a midfielder and Johnson has given him a masterclass.

"I actually had to play on him (Johnson) the other day and he showed what it was about, playing in the middle — he scragged me, hit me high, he did whatever he could to stop me getting the ball," Tambling said.

Tambling also played for the All-Stars two years ago against the Western Bulldogs.

"It was my first game after being drafted — I was pretty excited," the former Essendon fan said. "It was an honour for me to be picked, to represent the Aboriginal people, the population around Australia — one of the highlights of my career."

After managing only 12 games in his debut 2005 season because of injury, Tambling missed just one game last year.

But he managed more than 20 possessions only once and is determined to become more of a key player.

"I didn't play the way I would have liked to," he said of last season. "I don't think my fitness levels were as high as they should be.

"I didn't realise how hard you had to actually work on game day — now I know how much it hurts."
