Plough should try young leadership for NAB Cup
« on: January 17, 2007, 11:57:21 PM »
I think Plough should make Brett Deledio captain during the NAB Cup with Richard Tambling Vice Captain and Dean Polo Deputy Vice Captain. Let the kids takeover some leadership during these games, I think it would be a good experience for them.

Maybe a good idea for next year's NAB Cup but I think this year they should be left to focus on their own improvement. None of them are yet near the level that potentially they can achieve. The captaincy should be earnt.

Just out of interest Ramps, why did you go Deledio Capt, Tambo VC and Polo DVC?

I think your idea has some merit but I am curious as to why you chose those 3.

I reckon Foley shows leadership by the way he goes about his footy :thumbsup

Should we start calling Andrew, Afghanistan?

Have no idea why Tambo would be considered VC, but it's all opinions, I guess.

He'd be one up on his dad if he was made captain.

For me, its the idea that counts. The names I put up was done so to show what I meant. Having said that, I think Deledio could captain the side, Tambo needs to be given some confidence and Polo has worked his backside of. Sure some will be disappointed but to some degree we are all hoping that Deledio and Tambling become our key stars down the track. Anyway its an idea I believe has merit. Let the young kids lead...let them run the circus and lets see what show they put on...you never know maybe they can do some things in leadership we havent seen before.

And by the way when I was thinking up this idea the names on my piece of paper which I just saw on my desk were

Brett Deledio
Richard Tambling
Dean Polo
Andrew Raines
Nathan Foley
and
Adam Pattison

Take your pick I suppose. As I said in my previous post, I want my idea to get up... Plough can pick the leadership ticket for NABCup.

I'm not a fan of rotating the captaincy in the season proper like St Kilda did but maybe with this idea it would have merit. Pick a different two youngsters per preseason game maybe as joint captains for the day. Given that I would still wait another year at least for them to earn their stripes at senior level. If say Lids was just made captain for this whole preseason we would effectively be making him heir apparent to Sugar ahead of others who have done more at senior level so far.
