Trade him if we can, however given he's contracted for next year we may as well try and see what Hardwick can do

Hopefully he can be involved in getting Mitch Farmer to the club

Ok so I have been thinking about this bloke since Hardwick took over. Last year and from the years since he kicked the big 6 against the Lions at the GABBA this bloke has been moved around the ground (when not injured) from pillar to post.

He has not really had a decent pre-season form mine for quite a while either.

I have been one of his biggest critics for a while now but........ I know he under performed at Coburg but I can't comment much there because I didn't see him. Was he bad in the Coburg side because of him or the way the team played, any stuff would be great.

So to cut a long story short could Hardwick make him an accountable backman, remember Wallace tried.... or did he?????? Should we keep him as he is a mobile tall??

Thoughts?

Played a couple of very average Coburg games when they were playing terrible footy, but Jay was also playing injured in the 2nd half of the season. Like that article earlier in the thread states. Played some stunners for the Burgers too (Geelong, Werribe). From the games I saw him play at Coburg on TV, he looked okay but starved of chances because the delivery was so poor. Often moved down back when things weren't going Coburg's way.

He played a reasonable season down back and pinch hitting up forward in 08 (despite what some think), maybe Hardwick will keep him and put him back in defense? Guess we'll see what happens with him soon enough

Davey we must go to different games because of the 2 games i saw this dud play at Coburg were nothing short of disgraceful, not to mention his appearance at Richmond

Head down refusing to chase or tackle, its been the story of his whole career

This guy is a complete and utter waste of time and should be offloaded to the nearest bidder. Id take anything for him and i mean anything

Play him back, play him forward we have tried everything and with or without Richo in the team, he is a pathetic footballer who cant even excel at VFL level.

Wrong Daniel, he DOES exceed at VFL level, I think that is what upsets so many people about him.

You think so?

Other than 2 or 3 games where he kicked a bag he has done nothing at Coburg you will find especially the last half of the year.

the guy is useless at both levels

The problem with our club is we hold onto hope, that these duds will one day come on. Sadly that day never comes and we are left red faced holding our dicks with no draft picks and a dud footballer who cant get a senior game.

This guy should be wearing Port colours. See Danny Meyer took so long for us to delist him and we got nothing for him in the end.

Schulz, Petrified, Thompson, Patterson, Hughes...The same will apply to all those household names

If we didn't need KPF's so badly it would be a no brainer.  But even so I feel he has the potential to play at AFL but I am fairly sure he won't do so at the RFC.

Trade.

Sorry, but this is utter tripe. I know you have a vendetta against Sarge, but to call him "useless" at VFL is just plain old Bull poo. He played about three very good games for Coburg this season, a few good games, a few serviceable games and a few poor ones. Playing injured in the 2nd half of the season and was still Richmond's highest vote getter in the Liston Medal  :banghead That is a fair assessment. It's a bit hard to star for Coburg at FF when the team is rubbish and can't deliver the ball for poo, which is why he was moved down back in quite a few matches.

At 7 years on an AFL list you should not be making excuses for a player being inj for a few weeks as the reason why he has had a few poor games in the ressies. He should be tearing up the comp now and played close to 100-120 games experience and be part of another teams planning when they play against us. He should be consistent and a go to player in our side. He should have a prescence about him on the field and have an ability to perservere and have an impact week in week out regardless of what the scoreboard is. I think the assessment of him being useless is harsh but apt.

What do you want from him Davey that we have all hoped for from him? This year was career defining for him as it was for our club and both failed abysmally. Time to move him on if we can find a suitable trade and if not as he is contracted for another year leave him at Coburg. At his age players don't improve to a new level at best he might be more consistent at VFL level but out of his depth at AFL level. In my opinion that does not warrant him to be retained on our list because we have a vendetta or bias towards him but because he is lost at this level.  Plain and simple.

Reasonable assessment there Tucker.

What I would say though is if we cannot trade him (and with BHall going to the Dogs there's one option gone) we wil have to keep him and I would think that Hardwick will give him one last chance at senior level to see if he (Hardwick) can get anything out of him performance wise.

If we again get nothing we don't actually lose anything because we have got much to start with.

But if my some miracle Jay actually shows something and turns his career around under Dimma then we can hail Dimma as a genius

Do I think it will happen? Not really because I have been waiting for 7 long years and have been disappointed too many times but if it does then it is a win for us

I find it funny that I'm now making 'excuses'. Gee, you can't say a thing in a maligned players defense on this site ;D. What I said was fact, he played the entire 2nd half of the season on a dodgy foot. That's not me saying we should keep him because of that - that is me sticking up for him when a poster said he was 'useless' at VFL level. I'd like to see some of the keyboard heroes on here have a crack at playing injured as a key forward for Coburg when they're playing terrible, terrible footy. Whether or not he's here next season, I don't know. But everyone should accept the decision that's made on him. If that's him staying, okay, if it's him going then that is fine too.

Who wants another year of nothing but personal bashing of certain players....

got nothing to do with a keyboard pal its got everything to do with the fact he CANNOT PLAY.

You talk about playing injured as being one of the reasons he wasn't so effective in the last half of the year.

well you tell that to Nick Reiwvoldt who has had a dodgy knee all year or pants millane who played with a broken hand in the GF. Richo Broken cheek bone.
It never stops them from showing class every time they cross the white line.

If what you say is true, which i severely doubt then why would the RFC risk him getting injured further playing for Coburg.

Mate you need to come up with something better than that.

Its called playing for your jumper pal and this guy doesnt deserve one cent of his pay packet. He has delivered us 6 years of absolute garbage

Schulz is a hack of the highest order and his only claim to fame being a 6 goal haul which gets a mention every now and then when people run out of excuses for him.

we would best run out with 21 players next year because having Schulz there would further give off a bad example to the youngsters and further spread the cancer that he amongst others helped spread.

Jay is one of the all time laziest footballers that I have ever seen play the game.
He was always a player that I used to watch when away from the play - such a soft runner.
His 2nd efforts made Anthony Rocca look like Rob Harvey.

He was suited down back because he could sit there and wait for it to come to him or just peel off as the spare man and pick up cheap kicks.

Really poorly coached, allowed to get away with blue murder. Pathetic really.
It's that simple Spud
"I discussed (it) with my three daughters, my wife and my 82-year-old mum, because it has really affected me … If those comments … were made about one of my daughters, it would make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. I would not have liked it at all.”
