Youtube clip: Brilliant drum solo by Omar Hakim
« on: February 12, 2007, 09:54:14 AM »
If you like your music and you love the sound of drums being played brilliantly, then check out this clip of Omar Hakim playing a Roland electronic kit.
The kit he is playing is the big brother of the Roland TD6 kit I have. He really starts kicking it around the 1:30 minute mark. One of the best drummers going around today. Watch it. I guarantee you will be impressed.  :thumbsup

Moi, this clip may also give you an idea of the best you can get out of a youtube clip from an audio perspective.

Great stuff tiga. Is every piece of the drumkit connected electronically in some way or is it a combo of electronics and ordinary drums?

I emailed the clip to a musician mate of mine and he sent me back a clip you might be interested in of this guy called David "fingers" Haynes who can play a drummachine with such precision it sounds as though he is playing on an ordinary drumkit  :gobdrop.

Yep MT,

Everything is electronic! Bass, cymbals, toms, snare, the works. Pretty cool eh! The drum heads are covered with a nylon mesh with the triggers underneath.
My kit has a mesh snare but the rest of the trigger pads and cymbals are rubber but they are all 2 zone and pressure sensitive which gives me the feel of an acoustic kit.
They sure have come a long way since Pseudo Echo! :lol I played acoustic kits for many years but there are so many advantages to an electronic kit now they have excellent sampling.
1. They never go out of tune
2. I can choose from over 80 different drum kits and have a stack of built in play alongs(songs where you can mute the drum track and practice)
3. When my boy's asleep, I can whack on the headphones and still play.
4. Never need to mic up for a gig.
5. The drum brain is also a midi sequencer with heaps of realistic sounding instruments.

If you like, I'll sample a composition of me on drums with a midi sequenced arrangement and whack it on mp3 for you.

 :rollin

You 80's new romantic with hexagonal drums :lol

Sheesh that technology is impressive especially the pressure sensitive stuff :o.

Cool. I'm expecting you to be twice as good as the def leppard drummer  ;).

Well MT, I know its taken a while but here is an Mp3 of me playing drums on my electronic kit. Not the best session
as I had a few monitoring issues. I used a built in play along song for the accompaniment. The file is only a couple of meg.
