Judging preseason form
« on: February 17, 2007, 02:18:55 AM »
The argument for preseason form being a good guide to the season ahead:

Quote
On last night's form, St Kilda would finish near the bottom of the ladder. The skills were deplorable, with running defender Aaron Fiora the main offender  :rollin. Fiora, however, got as much of the ball as any player and the Saints' coaching staff was pleased by the enthusiasm and attempts to adjust to the new run-and-carry game plan.

The argument that you take preseason form with a grain of salt:

Quote
AFL discard David Rodan showed he could be a draft steal with a dominant performance in Port Adelaide's trial match at Alberton last night.

The former Tiger, the last player taken in the 2006 national draft (No. 86), starred in the midfield, defence and while resting in attack to pencil his name in coach Mark Williams' side to play Adelaide in the NAB Cup opener at AAMI Stadium on Friday.

Playing for the possibles team, Rodan won a swag of possessions, ran hard through the lines and proved tough to tackle, supporting Kane Cornes' judgment that he is very strong. He also kicked three goals.

Rodan, 23, who played 65 games in five years at Richmond, was the pick of the new boys and looks set to play a significant role this season.

Yep Rodan always played well in our intra-club games. Plenty of space to run and bounce the ball a million times lol. Wait until the real stuff when he holds onto the ball too long and all the forwards are out of position.

Fiora for Simmonds still makes me laugh. Thanks Sainters :rollin.

I actually think Rodan will do well at Port simply because he is quick and the rest of them are not, coupled with the fact that they play non directo type of game. :thumbsup

Perhaps we need a tongue in cheek smiley ;)

Having said that...

A friend of mine who follows Port Adel and watches them train quite a bit said that Rodan has been quicker than Pearce in some drills and that Rodan has been a stand out in their training.

Personally I view Pearce more as a being a quick thinker (great footy smarts) and evasive rather than quick - but I don't see them enough

Rodan did well again last night. Kicked 4 goals in Port's win over the Saints.
