Simon Goodwin named as betting on AFL games
« on: February 17, 2007, 03:22:57 PM »
Just announced in the last hour on SEN that Simon Goodwin is one of the 4 players being investigated for betting on AFL games. Goodwin and the Crows have confirmed it. He didn't bet on any Adelaide games and only did it once apparently. The dopey git opened a betting account under his real name  :stupid.

I think we are in the clear. Terry was asked on 3aw earlier if he knew of any betting investigation at Richmond and he didn't.

Latest from SEN is Melbourne has come out and said Daniel Ward is one of them.

Rumour has it that another Crows player might be involved.

A Carlton and Richmond player you ""might"" find are involved.
Lets see the spin doctors at Tigerland put a positive spin on this one ;)

I couldn't care less if they had a bet on other games or bet to win our own games.  What's the big deal?
If they bet to lose that's different, but who cares otherwise!

I've never heard of Keiren Jack  :-\

This is from the link that MT posted:
Quote
If found guilty of breaking the AFL's regulations concerning gambling, Goodwin, Ward and Jack face penalties which could include a monetary sanction, suspension or the requirement that the offender must attend counselling or a responsible gambling course.

The Tigers are in the clear. David Hale of the Roos is the fourth and final player named.

I don't think you could miss Richo lol.

What's stopping a player's brother or mate doing it for him? They only caught these 4 because the betting agencies did an audit on their account holders after noticing AFL players were on the books.

Hale is only guilty of being stupid. He obviously wasn't cheating betting on the finals after the Roos season had finished up. Still the AFL might cramp down on these 4 to set an example to deter any real corruption through gambling on matches. Ward is the more serious case and needs professional help.

Why doesn't the AFL just mind its own business  ::)
You can't take drugs, you can't bet - next they'll be outlawing all horizontal pursuits lol
Seriously, if they're not betting against themselves, who cares!
