Dome axes the pass-out

FIRST to go was the under-19s, then the reserves, then the curtain-raiser and then the post-match kick.
Now Telstra Dome has banned the kick-to-kick on the outside concourse at quarter, half and three-quarter time.
Telstra Dome management yesterday introduced a no pass-out policy for all events at the stadium.
Simply, once you're in, there's no going out.
While smokers will be catered for in designated smoking areas – smoke pens – patrons wishing to have a kick outside, a stretch of the legs or even a bite at the outside food shops will not be allowed between the first and final sirens.
It's believed a kick-to-kick on the outside concourse during the breaks was already frowned upon, but now it's impossible.
And because it's certainly banned inside, kids might as well not take a football to the footy.
The foodies won't be happy either. Those not satisfied with the price and/or content inside often would slip outside to do their buying and eating. No more.
The caterers undoubtedly will be pleased about that.
The policy is effective immediately, starting with tonight's Carlton v Essendon NAB Cup match.
A stadium management statement yesterday said the decision was the result of a joint effort between themselves and stadium hirers, in consultation with federal, state and local law enforcement agencies.
"The no pass-out policy is consistent with the majority of international stadiums who now enforce this practice to ensure the safest possible environment for patrons," it said.
"It is intended to discourage patrons from leaving an event and potentially compromising stadium security procedures and/or liquor licensing policy upon re-entry.
"Patrons wishing to leave the stadium and re-enter will only be permitted in exceptional circumstances."
