the best coach ive ever seen working live was Ferenc Puskas at South Melbourne from 1990-1992. He had a team full of socceroos and olyroos and at training hed use to stand in the middle of the park, with his big gut hanging, with whistle in his mouth. Every time a player stuffed up in training matches where the squad was broken in 2 groups of 11...hed pay a free kick. Sometimes even a penalty. Hed work there arses of at training till there were no mistakes. The players would make mistakes at training and hed make them pay...pretty soon the penny dropped- the mistakes were lessened. He was a pretty successful coach at South. Orchestrated the greatest ever championship win against the Knights in 1991.

The players at Richmond dont pay a high enough price.

The coach is more interested in his ego than anything else. Terry seems to be burning the candle at both ends with media relations and coaching. He really needs to concentrate more on match day with the coaching of the side rather than taking questions from commentators. The players have not been paying a high price for their errors for a very long time and the same errors are repeated constantly. They need to take a disciplined no frills approach rather than this media savvy crap that is currently going on. The honeymoon is over it is top 8 or nothing this year. The gradual improvement seen in the first two years of his tenure must be maintained. No point going from last to 12th to 9th then back to 12th or worse blaming injuries or anything else then 9th and say we have improved a few rungs in the terms of his tenure.

who cares its the nab cup! its all just for publicity.

terry is just marketing the club and yes himself but he represents us and who cares.

btw, if terry took the nab cup seriously do u think tuck would have been our number 1 ruck

that was not our best team out there, it was the nab 15 plus others.

If I was terry id be more worried about

1) Why our midfielders cant get the footy
2) Why our midfielders dont know how to put on defensive pressure
3) Why our midfielders dont know where to run to create space
4) Why our defenders havent got a clue
5) Why our forwards dont put in any defensive effort.

Sorry, I know its early and I shouldnt go full on, but its simply disgraceful.

Who is the midfield coach by the way?

Oh and I wanna know why we dont know how to dispose of the footy properly. Its a joke!

that my friends is the truth

If we play like that its gonna be a bottom 4 finish in 2007.

This is a way over the top reaction. Settle down. Some of your statements, especially 1 to 5, need to be qualified by words such as "some of " or "often" or "at times appear like".

This is way too harsh, in my opinion. He's trying to market the club, and therefore he needs to put himself forward in innovative ways. I watched those interviews, and I didn't see a skerrick of self-aggrandisement or self-indulgence.

1) Why our midfielders cant get the footy

We were leading the centre clearances 8-0 in the first quarter so we got our hands on the footy when the game was still alive. Just had no one inside 50 to kick to and the delivery was crap. Into the wind our forwards were too deep and the ball didn't reach them. After the first quarter the Cats had all the momentum and our team structure completely fell away.

2) Why our midfielders dont know how to put on defensive pressure

3) Why our midfielders dont know where to run to create space

They do (as they do it at training) but in our first real game with a real opponent a lot of our guys went back into self-preservation mode and we stopped working for each other. Once that happens you become a rabble. Left to too few to do the necessary gut-running into space and to stay with an opponent. Our silly turnovers don't help us either as all of a sudden all the Geelong players were free in space.

4) Why our defenders havent got a clue

Gas couldn't handle the new rule and is getting towards the end of his career. I was told at training over month ago this year would be his last. The rest of our defenders were swamped due to lack of pressure up the field. When they did gain possession they would look up and no one was running to the wings as a cut-out due to point (3).  That's why we coughed up the footy so many times in our defence.

5) Why our forwards dont put in any defensive effort.

A problem we've had for a while  :-\. Jacko and Harts aren't up to this level.

Look GB that is all fine to market the club I do not have an issue with that but essentially on match days Terry is being paid and lucratively I might add to coach the club not field questions at the 10 minute mark of each quarter from commentators. Greg Miller and the marketers at the club can do the marketing on match days . Furthermore no point outting positive spins on awful performances. As Greg Miller said yesterday on the tv coverage the club is looking to break the 30,000 member barrier for the first time this year. That is fine but performances like yesterdays first up do not help that figure nor the clubs. Did anyone forget the round 1 nightmare we had against the Dogs last season. Terry yes can be a spokesperson of our playing stocks but not during the game so Terry just coach the team and try to improve their skills and the rest of the hierarchy can worry about finances, sponsors  and all the other goings on. I am sure if this simple approach is followed in some capacity things will improve all over. No point being content with a certain amount of members and then stopping there in terms of on field successs. We were all hyped up by our year in 2001 and then our night final appearance in 02 and we all know whrer we were just a few years later. Time to act on this now. This is the most important year in Terry's tenure in terms of on-field success. Can't start going backwards now.

While I agree winning is the way to attract fans and support, it was the Club that wanted Plough to be the Club's face and showman as well as be coach given the mess we were in at at the end of 2004. They got him for his media savviness to boost our profile in the media and with potential sponsors.

Well perhaps now that the club finances have turned around and are not in the state they were post 2004 perhaps we are in the position to consolidate our improvement on field and let results do the talking which means Terry does not need to call a press conference for any footy issues just b/c the club wanted him to be more media savvy. Motorola has been around pre Wallace and AFG were good enough to come on board after the Jay Schulz saga. Look it is a fine line I know but yesterday's interviewing was ridiculous. Perhaps time spent doing interviews and Wallace Wednesday on Fox Footy could be spent better planning and coaching using every available resource to him to resurrect our fortunes. If he ever leaves the Tigers for whatever reason stating inability to work in current environment , lack of resources, sacking with only moderate support at best he will be a coaching mercenary. When you have players in a team that cannot spot up a player 30 metres away and hit him instead of on the chest but on the half volley or his bootlaces perhaps he should be on the track. Richo has been screaming at the delivery from up the ground for years.

I agree that in the season proper Terry should not do any interviews while the match is in progress.

I'll bet he's very disappointed with the way the team, and certain individuals, played yesterday, just like I am.

I stand by what I said. Its not my fault if the players cant dispose of the footy properly, its not my fault if they go into self presevation mode as some suggest, its not my fault kicks dont get to teamates, when I talk about getting the footy, its not just about getting the first disposal out of the square, whats the point of getting the first disposal if it goes nowhere...what counts is who gets it and uses it properly FIRST, that could mean you may not get the first disposal from the centre bounce but if it goes straight up in the air from the pressure applied and you get the first proper disposal...thats what counts. I stand by what I said.

When Joel stuffed up in the goalsquare gifting Geelong a goal just as Plough was being interviewed, Plough was lucky he kept his composure and didn't make any crow sounds lol.

I'd prefer he just coach too but although our finances are improving we have by no means turned them around yet. We still owe $4 million.

Well hopefully a continued long term of on field success will improve them further with more membership sales more tv exposure and hence more from sponsors due to tv exposure. We are all hoping and waiting for it :pray
