Matthew Richardson
« on: March 10, 2007, 03:24:03 PM »

at the end of his CHAMPION career without a premiership ...

12 Matthew Richardson is one of the GREAT richmond players of all time ...

and as it stands ...

he is the OLDEST richmond player on our list at the moment ... turning 32 in 5 days time ...

he has PLAYED the MOST MATCHES on our list ...

MOST GOALS of course ...

and yet still THE MOST IMPORTANT PLAYER on our list ...

and 16 games short of 250 MATCHES ...

i hope he gets 300 MATCHES ... kicks over 1,000 GOALS and wins a B&F and PREMIERSHIP ...

he deserves them all ...

so he is 66 Matches sort of 300 ...

400 goals short of 1,000 goals ...

so if he plays 07,08,09,10 uninjured kicking 80+ goals in each year ... he will achieve this ...

IT IS A VERY LONG SHOT, but you have to appreciate a CHAMPION player like Richardson in a career with only 1 finals series campaign ...

but its time to let go ... and not rely on him too much now ... he is still injuring prone and one more MAJOR injury will do him ...

i hope his career ends in a fairy tale ... because he DESERVES one !

Provided his hammies hold up  :-\ he could finish with 300 games but I doubt he'll reach 1000 goals. How many times has Richo kicked 80 or more goals in a single season in his whole career .... once in 96?

The other question is where a 36 year old Richo would fit in a 2010 Richmond side with most of our youngsters now in their early-mid 20s by then.

Richo will walk away with one club record - most times club leading goalkicker. He's equal with Jack Titus at the moment with 11.

yeah ... at the moment Richardson has 690 goals ...

310 goals needed ... yeah ... he has only kick over 80 goals once in 96 with 91 ...

i do doubt that he will reach that milestone ... but 300 matches could be possible ...

Terry has declared that Richardson will become a Lynch (Brisbane) type player at full-forward ...

he is turning 32 on the 19th ... so yeah, it depends on his body !

GO RICHARDSON !

If only we had 3 brownlow medalists plus a few more A-grade midfielders in the one side to kick the ball to him and to our other forwards :-\.

Richardson like all the other forwards have their big opportunity to break the alltime goalkicking record this year owing to the rule change but for one thing and that is accuracy in their kicking at goal.
