Nearly drove off the road when listening to Greg Miller today.
One of the main reasons they recruited Kane Johnson was to improve the skills at the club and at training and that he was a leader.

I have watched Kane Johnson over the past two years very closely and would say he turns the ball over by foot nearly more than anyone in the team. He is a poor kick. Would think most would agree with that.

I will never forget the opening of game of 2007 and the first kick going the wrong way, that is excuseable

As for Greg, cut the spin doctoring. If you think Kanes a good kick, we are in trouble.
This might be the problem at our club, we actually think we are better than we are.

It was pick 4 (which ended up as 2 [Wells]) + Torney for Johnson and pick 12 (Schulz). There were other later picks swapped as well. Sugar wanted to come "home" a year earlier but we wouldn't trade Holland and instead gave Dutchy a $$$ contract after just one good year . But of course the past 25 years of incompetence is Sugar's fault  because he had a shocker on Sunday and kicked the ball the wrong way .

No the fact is that Miller says on national radio that Johnson is there for his skills, well blow me down, his kicking is poor, even the seeing eye dog would know that.

And who should've been named captain instead at the time?

I've never said Sugar was A-grade but who else at Tigerland is? Browny pre-broken leg was but it would have looked like the teacher's pet got the gig if Wallace handed it to Browny after just one year at the Club. And please don't say either Joel or Richo should have been captain.

I don't think Sugar is cut out for captain - I would have Newmo - might not be as polished but a lot of grit and determination.

Richo is a leader like it or not.

The case for Richo was very good. He was already a bona fide champion of the club with 580 goals under his belt at the time. He shows with his play and his actions that he loves the club. Yes there is those Richo moments but he always bounces back from them. That is as important to me as having a 'gun' player who is 'spotless' with his game, which Kane Johnson is far from.

As my impartial flatmate just remarked "Johnson was really good for Adelaide, he's only been OK for the Tigers" Unfortunately, I think he is spot on.

Yes Richo can lift the side to greater heights but he can also totally deflate it if he's having an off night in front of goal when he's missing sitters. That's why he's our lovable enigma. Brilliant and frustrating at the same time.

Joel had a shocker too on Sunday. Like the Joel of 4 years ago trying to be too cute deep in defence and turning the ball over. 

Newy would be someone I would like as captain as Moi suggested but at the time Plough was deciding who should get the gig he was coming off an ordinary year where he stagnated. Choosing someone from the next generation would be a good idea too. The older senior players have failed us far too often.

The captain doesn't necessarily have to be a matchwinner. Mark Bickley is a dual premiership captain. Champion teams win flags.
