Ruck problems
« on: April 04, 2007, 06:59:05 PM »
Some glaring ruck stats from Sunday's game  :-\

Total Hitouts: 12 - 36
CB hitouts: 5 - 20
TI hitouts: 2 - 9
BU hithouts: 5 - 7

CB - centre bounce
TI - throw in
BU - ball ups

Just while were are on stats we had 25 handling errors (fumbles and dropped marks) as well. Equally worst for round 1. Plus just 53 to Carlton's 80 tackles.

We need to make our tackles stick, perhaps they should get the Storm boys in again to show them how it's done.

Not sure if Knoble was contracted for this season, but we have been better off giving him the flick and picking up someone like Keating from Brisbane.

I know he was also injury prone but atleast we know he could play well in the ruck.

I am sure there was also a number of other rucks we could have looked at. I am disappointed that we havent drafted another ruck yet, as i dont think they have much hope for Angus and i know he was very close to getting the chop last year.

Knoble will surely be gone at years end unless he can really turn it around and that only leaves Simmo as a genuine ruck.

Patto tries hard but i think he is more suited up forward.

Maybe we need to get Razor in there, it may be his chance to shine.

Staff was on his last legs and made the right decision to retire but we didn't go out and find someone to replace him.

Imagine the furore if we'd gone out and got Cameron Cloke, the guy who killed us on sunday. The words "dud" and "hack" would've been used a hundred times at least.

Another Tiger would have to go onto the long-term injury list for us to promote Gus. Maybe Knobel might be given his cronic ankle problems. Still Gus is along way from being ready to play AFL.

I think it will be a case of "No gus, no glory" for quite a while yet.

Will get a better idea on Sunday where Gus is at. He is named 1st Ruck for Coburg.

ANd to put it into persepective just a little - Sunday will be Gus Graham's 2 senior VFL game (yep folks 2nd) - that's the main reason I don't think we should be rushing with him - he has a lot to learn
