Why Shane Edwards should get a game thread

Why Shane Edwards should get a game ....

* Of all our young blokes he's kept putting his hand up over the preseason and last week for Coburg being named regularly in our bests. He's earnt a call-up IMHO.

* We need to add blokes who have polished skills and run all day.

* Nothing like youth to surprise on a big occasion because they have no fear of failure. Like Polo last year.

* He's more likely to do better early in the year. Most young blokes tire in their first year of AFL as the season goes along unless they are a stuff.

* The Pies are debuting 3 youngsters tomorrow night - Cox, idiot and Toovey. So Edwards won't be on his own as a debutant.

I agree. This isnt about just giving a kid a game- Shane Edwards actually deserves a debut this week.

Agree that Edwards probably deserves a game but I think taking into consideration all pre-season forma and last weeks Coburg game I reckon Jake King deserves to debut too, perhaps even ahaed of Edwards

 :thumbsup

Who do you drop to bring him in ?

Unless Petts is out injured, I'm not sure anyone else deserves to be dropped at this stage. Howat is probably first in line, and his pre-season was better than Edwards.

Probably Howat GB. He's been a bit off and a run at Coburg where he can dominate would do him the world of good.

As for Edwards. He deserves a go and we need to get games into those midfielders we believe will be part of our next premiership team. This week would be better opportunity first up against a weaken Pies team than a top 4 Dogs side the week after IMO.

Malthouse's pro-view on playing youngsters:
Quote
"Of course, there's always an element of risk involved, but I think the players that are going to be able to handle that (pressure) are the ones that you want in your side anyway," Malthouse said from the Lexus Centre on Thursday.

"I think anyone who shies away from the big stage, the big occasion, generally are people that perhaps you don't really want to go in with down the track.

"We don't expect any of these kids to dominate. We just expect them to hold up their role that's been supplied to them. There'll be no less demands on them or more demands on them than any other player in the club."

Wouldn't be suprised to see Edwards debut R7 against Port in his home town. Terry goes in for that kind of stuff ala JON last year agaisnt Essendon in the dreamtime at the G

Has to come in. He couldn't do any worse. We were killed for leg speed and we have too many frontrunners who won't work hard enough. as the Pies showed tonight kids will give you at least an effort despite their inexperience.

Give him a go I say... he's shown he can perform well. I thought he did an excellent job in the intra-club match at Cranbourne  :thumbsup
Throw him in the team and see how he goes, we got nothing to lose really.
