Ok, forget the negativity, what do we need to do to improve?
« on: April 13, 2007, 11:16:03 PM »
Ok, its been a bad three weeks, and I would expect supporters to be upset, But I do get sick of the continual vitriol without any ideas on how to sort out the problems.

Forget the sack the coach and the players routine.  That comes at the end of the year.  What do we need to do TODAY?

What I have seen and heard so far this season is that we have been a good chance to win in all three of our games, but lack of match fitness and poor mistakes have cost us each game.

We have a shockingly tough run of 8 games based on current form coming up. (6 are against teams in the top Eight)

So what do we need to do?

My thoughts -

  • Blood some of the youngsters and give game time to others.  King, Edwards, Hartigan, even JON and Hughes.
  • Work on our attacking running game.  We heard all preseason how we were flying. What has happened to that conditioning?
  • Drop poor performers.  We cannot keep passengers that are not upto it.
  • Stay positive.  I think we can turn around our season

im not saying sack the coach now, at yrs end he should be forced to quit, cos we cant pay him out
then we must get rid off all our senior group
i agree we need to play all our kids get miles in their legs
but not hartigan he is a tool and cant play, he is another turnover king

We need to set targets for the playing group to achieve.

KPI's if you like for the team things.

If you dont cut the mustard, back to Coburg.

Make them play for the jumper and bleed for each other.

I want Wallace to come out and spray them publicly. Tell us that is isnt acceptable and that heads will roll.

Show us that you are hurting Wallace.

The way sarge is playing now id like to see Richo moved out of the fwd line. This may be a laugh to some but id like him and J.Bowden changed over, Bowden reads the play well and is a nice kick for goal and Richo could fill that bigman down back that we need.
Also Lids moved up forward, he has shown in the past he has the skill and pace to play there so why is he sitting HBF?
Thursfield must almost be ready to come back and would IMO be better for us than Gasper he may not be consistant yet but i think he only needs some games under his belt.
Johnson needs to be setup in the HFF area and left there, He isnt a midfeilder but he does have some smarts going into the 50.
Tiv is doing ok so far on the wing and Polak should take the other. with Foley, Howlet,Tambling etc running through the middle.
London and X both have it right, we have nothing to loose so lets get some of the kids (King, Edwards, Hughes, Casserley) in for some game time.

Mark Graham was sitting behind me watching the boys train and the boys were having really difficult shots at goal and even he said only one man can kick that, Brett Deledio. And he did.

agree with  some thinmgs

joel should maybe go chf
richo has shocking foot skills and sh it for brains to play in defence

lids must go in teh midfield and stay there
sugar should be dropped or play off half back as he did 4 adelaide

richo should play off the bench or in the ruck
ffs he is the same height as snake, so why cant he become a ruckman, if that does not work, retire him cos his only other option is to plonk himself in teh squre and not move but he would not be able to contain himself

Good suggestions LT and Bully. Mine's pretty along the same lines.

1) Show a united front as a team. Wallace must take his share of the blame for last night; not just point at the players. Both were too slow to react to changes in momentum in the matches. He must make alterations to his gameplan. It's too inefficient and isn't working as it stands. We aren't getting our hands on the footy and we struggle to score over the whole 4 quarters.

2) Drop poor performers especially those who seem disinterested is putting their body of the line for the team. Show that poor "efforts" at contests won't be tolerated. Petts has the talent but was one of the main culprits last night hence why he got dragged. Paddy got dropped for the same reason so the precident is there for Wallace. We need to harden up especially mentally.

3) Promote young guys who have consistently put up their hand at Coburg. Edwards should have played last night. For crying out loud idiot kicked 2 goals weighing just 60kgs. Our current crop of senior players aren't up to it so we need to get games into the cubs.

Where do we need to improve, where do you start ?

Very briefing, I will have a shot.

1/game plan stinks. Continually go wide and dont use the corridor.
2/need a proper captain who is a leader, big mistake in what has happened in that area.
3/ Forward structure is a disgrace.  Schultz should never be going for the same ball as Richo. It Schultz brain dead.?  Time and time again they both went for the same ball. Schultz should be running in the oppposite direction and to suck his man out of the contest, instead poor Richo has the third man up against him all the time. This is real basic stuff and they cant get it right. ALL FORWARDS NEED TO SPREAD.

4/ Please someone get Richo and get him back into his kicking routine, last night was a disgrace. If we have skills coaches, they must be currently on annual leave.

5/ Polak. Plays the game like Jane. Had one kick for the entire game last nite.  Gee we were only playing Collingwood

6/ Tivendale, he is actually playing ok  but the message that should be given to him is to play in the 50 metre square and dont go chasing kicks around the boundary.
As a team we need to be ""straightened up"" and therfore you need to play your ball carriers down the middle, not runing around the boundary line all game.( ala Marc Murphy from carlton doesnt chase kicks wide)

7/ If the game is slipping away, make moves that are unpredictable.
Last night early in the third quarter, Bowden should of been pushed forward- Schultz on Roccs or something like that ?

I could go on and on but whats the point.? People say that i sour grapes , the only thing that is sour is the RFC I am afraid to say.
We have no player depth, our recruits arent up to it( Now where is Kent K ?) and we are poorly coached I what I have seen so far this year.
We are currently headed in the wrong direction, if you think different, thats fine by me, everyone is entitled to there opinion although you wont be finding much enjoyment in the sport that you love

You forgot one thing, X - our supporters turn on our club because they have no balls to tough it out and hence becomes a vicious circle.
What Jack says are all good comments about how we're playing - just wish he would keep his personal ambitions out of the equation  ::)

I actually think we are playing some decent football ATM.

Considering that in the last 3 games we have gotten ourselves into winning positions. I am just lamenting our lack of steel and resolve to close out the deal. And I think it is the senior players who really need to step up. In the last couple games, besides Tivs it has pretty much been the younger brigade holding the team together ala Lids, Tambling, Foley, Newman.

What we need to do is put players like Kane and J Bowden on notice to step up and show the kids the way, rather then lead them to the mentality that close enough is good enough.

Bleeding some youngsters would be another thing we should do. Edwards looks harder at the ball than most of the players we have in our 22 ATM and he is still only 70 kg  :o . Gotta bring back Thirsty as soon as he is ready because he has enthusiasm and doesn't drop his head. Riewoldt (is he injured  ???) should also be brought in because he has one thing our team is lacking and that is confidence.

C'mon Tiges, I ain't ready to give up in the season yet  :gotigers
