Plough said Sugar has kept on playing with a broken hand rather than put the hand in plaster and miss games because as captain he felt he shouldn't let the side down.

Sugar broke the bone in his hand against the Pies

he [Johnson] snapped a bone in his hand while shepherding against Collingwood two weeks ago.

According to coach, Terry Wallace, Johnson is keen to play on and is approaching surgery only as a last resort.

"People don't understand at times that they play under a fair duress, these guys. I think it's been a real credit to him. He could have quite easily said, 'let's get it set in plaster and let's fix it up straight away'," Wallace said.

"But we had so many problems in our line up with other blokes out that the captain did as captains do and he said, 'I want to keep playing with it'."
