Yep he's going to be a gem.

Those 12ish possessions a game will turn into 16 which will turn into 20 as the AFL fitness base gets into him and he gets the experience.

Im a massive fan.  :thumbsup

well ... you are right ...

but you do know that we have only won 1 match this year ???

not much to cheer about ... !!!

so anything new is welcomed ...

but going to far i agree calling Edwards a class act ...

he needs to kick more goals ...

Edwards gets with the program
7:00 PM Tue 10 July, 2007
By Catherine Murphy,
for richmondfc.com.au

EVERY week two Richmond players are given the task of presenting the Tigers’ game plan for the weekend’s upcoming clash to the rest of the playing group along with coach Terry Wallace.

This week it’s the turn of Shane Edwards and Will Thursfield.

As the two youngsters prepare to explain the tactics that they hope will topple Hawthorn, 18-year-old Edwards says he’s looking forward to the opportunity, but admits that it’s not the easiest thing to do.

"I haven’t actually done it before but the players who have, have told me that it’s pretty daunting because they have to know the game plan back to front,” he says.

However Edwards says that not all of the players share his apprehension about their presenting duties.

“I was talking to Jack Riewoldt and he said it was a lot of fun, so I can’t wait to do it,” he says.

Having always admired Tigers’ club champion Matthew Richardson when growing up, Edwards says standing in front of him and delivering the game plan will be a little surreal.

“It’s still scary just knowing that you’re wearing the same jumper as him. But it should be pretty fun telling him what we have to do,” Edwards says.

Along with his presenting task, Edwards is down to attend both pre-match and post-match press conferences. This week’s pre-match media conference was held at AFL World, where a host of Tigers’ fans turned up to see the players speak. Edwards says that more than anything he enjoys meeting the Tigers’ young fans.

“I’m no good at it (press conferences) but I like to think I’m getting better every time I do it. It’s humbling to see all the kids here to see you. It still all feels like a bit of a dream to be honest.”

See, nothing to do with tanking.  Just the players stuffing up the game plan. :lol

Thought Edwards played fairly well again today, still very raw so you cant expect him to have a huge impact.

Showed plenty though and has real class about him. Has very good evasive skills and disposal is pretty good. A big summer on the weights should see him do well next year.

Agree Birdman. Edwards also knows the right spots to run to. As he improves his fitness and strength with another preseason or two under his belt and collects more of the footy with more gametime he'll be a very good player for us.

Coaching: the inside story
4:55 PM Mon 16 July, 2007
richmondfc.com.au

EMERGING Tiger Shane Edwards has a new appreciation for coaches.

The club encourages its young players to each spend a week with the coaching staff to study the planning that goes into each match.

Last week, Edwards and Will Thursfield stepped up to the plate, and this week it was the turn of Edwards, the 18-year-old South Australian, to learn about the magnitude of the job the coaches do every week.

......

The nine-gamer now has one major focus: to spend as much time as possible in the gym to build up his 71kg frame.

"I'm working on it now, since the start really, but it will take me a while to catch up to the other blokes," he said.

"It's probably my biggest goal, and we have a lot of blokes at the club who have the same goal. All the skinny blokes do weights together, and we have a competition about who puts on the most.

"It keeps it interesting. Andy Collins might be winning at the moment, but he's got a lot more mud than any of the rest of us."
