Who will line up against Lucas and Lloyd?
« on: May 22, 2007, 07:38:01 AM »
Especially after they blew the Lions away, I'm a bit worried about match-up against these two players.  Thoughts?

Lucas has struggled against smaller quicker opponents, i'd stick Bowden on him, and Thursfield for Lloyd.

It depends on how they line up. Lloyd at times has played CHF or high up forward this year as a decoy with Lucas deeper. Polak will need to chip in in the ruck so I would keep him for Hille or Laycock when they push forward or if Johns plays.

Lucas at FF - Thursty
Lloyd at CHF - Bowden

Lucas at CHF - Bowden
Lloyd at FF - Thursty

3rd tall/resting ruckman - Polak

Schulz as back-up if he struggles again this week up forward.

Can tell you if Bowden goes to Lucas , Bombers will win by 6 goals.
You cant have a defender who continually zones off on Lucas.

We don't have much of a choice when Polak is in the ruck. Bowden will have to play on one of Lloyd or Lucas unless Sarge is played down back or McGuane is brought back in. Either way there'll be someone of far less class playing on one of Lloyd or Lucas. We need to hurt Essendon going the other way especially in the midfield getting our hands on the footy first and using our pace in space.

Interesting thoughts there MT.
Only problem is there is only one player capable of getting anywhere near the ball at centre clearances and thats Foley

True but we did alright at the centre clearances after quarter time last week. We're undermanned and Essendon should win but if we want to cause an upset then we have to take the game to them and target their weaknesses.

It's going to interesting who the bombers tag with McVeigh. It's hard to tag a inside midfielder and Foley this year is up there with the best in the League.

Watson will go to Foley ;)

I'd view that as a win for us :thumbsup

I could only see McVeigh tagging Lids in the mid-field MT - not when he is playing up forward
