Wallace on Ch10

We cant speak about the umpires, that's the rules so thats it.

Walls interviewing Wallace saying that Richo would have had that goal paid for all of his career.

Richo's eyes were both closed on Monday morning, Wallace said that he told Terry he wanted to play and he thought Richo was joking. Disappointed that the Richo goal wasnt paid as it would have been a fairy tale.

Told players to keep the faith, competed well.

Didnt lose the game through endeavour.

Lucky Sugar wasn't with Plough in the press conference this time lol.

I bet Plough deep down would love to let rip. He did well to keep his composure.

Richmond coach Terry Wallace was diplomatic about the free kick, after which Essendon scored two points and then a goal to Matthew Lloyd after the siren.

"In every game of football the umpires will make some really good decisive decisions and some really poor decisions," Wallace said.

"Unfortunately as a coach we're not allowed to talk on either. I think that no one could have a go at the players' endeavour. We fought it out to the bitter end.

"Purely and simply what cost us this game of football was our inability to stay calm when the game was on the line."

Wallace addressed his shattered players on the ground after the game as James Hird was presented with the Yiooken award for best afield in the Dreamtime at the 'G.

"Taking nothing away from the opposition again, James Hird was a fantastic player in the game, Scotty Lucas was a fantastic player, but Richo kicks the goal and that's his fifth for the game and he might have a boomerang in his hand," Wallace said.

"To play in the manner he did first up, I thought the lesson he was teaching some of the younger players was about wanting to get there no matter what the circumstance."

From the Age

"The game ebbs and flows, doesn't it?" Wallace said.

When pressed on being able to talk about the decision, he added: "It's like the guys who are playing the game - you play some really good footy and you play some poor footy at times.

"The umpires are no different - the umpires, in every game of football....will make some really good decisive decisions and they'll make some poor decisions.

"Unfortunately, as a coach, we're not allowed to talk on either."

Wallace spoke to his players on the ground immediately after the game and later was philosophical, describing the loss as "frustrating".

He said the Tigers tried to "ice" the game with a couple of minutes left, but blamed inexperience for not being to retain possession and protect the lead.

He said Essendon came into the game with a total of around 2600 matches in experience, while Richmond had about 1500.

"When it comes down to the crunch, it's probably those extra experienced guys that Essendon had," he said.

"Three minutes to go, we were two goals in front - with a little bit more poise you probably work the clock down and you win the game....but that's where we are.

"Purely and simply, the thing that cost us this game of football was our inability just to stay calm when the game was on the line - it cost us."

Wallace praised Richardson for his courage.

"To play in the manner that he did....the lesson that was teaching some of your younger players about wanting to get there, no matter what the circumstances....I just think that's magnificent," Wallace said.

"But then to follow it up with a performance against top-line (opponents)....I thought was outstanding."
