St Nick to Richmond?
« on: May 27, 2007, 10:30:24 AM »
In the Sunday Age today, Hutchy reckons we must chase Nick.

Wouldn't mind it if he came through the PSD but no draft picks please

Greg Miller IMHO has an obligation to get a star to Richmond via the PSD. You cant get a free hit like that and not make it count.

have doubts over whether or not he wants to leave, compounded by the fact that St Kilda will through so much $$$$$ at his feet.

The Saints have about 4 very decent players coming out of contract- theyll struggle to pay them all.

Star players just don't come in the PSD, there is no way in hell the Saints would let him go for nothing and I can't see Nick leaving them in those circumstances. Best we can hope for in the PSD is to use the 1st pick as leverage to get a good trade deal (ala Simmonds), then use the PSD to pick up a decent mid-range player that meets a need.

If you added "try to" I'd be 100% in agreement. Without those 2 words I'm 0% in agreement.

Successful clubs get the outcomes they want its not about trying its about success. We tried last night- but we lost. Weve tried all season bar for the geelong game- weve lost them all. Trying isnt going to cut it- we need results now.

Yeah.
What has that got to do with obligating Greg Miller to get a star to Richmond via the PSD?
How could Miller be held to that when there are set rules in place and he would be totally reliant on the club where this star is now playing allowing that star to go into the PSD?

Greg Miller is being paid by us. He is a paid employee of the RFC. His job is to run football operations at Punt Rd. The rules allow the club that finishes last to get an uncontracted player. He must use this rule to his advantage and ours. If we finish last and we dont get a star in the PSD then our football department should be turned over.

Ramps - how many stars have you seen picked up in the PSD recently? Nick Stevens is the only one I can think of and they were extraordinary circumstances that we will not see again. Picking up a star in the PSD is a pipedream.
