Just wondering how other people on the forum rate Powderfinger?

Just got home from their album launch which was at the Forum.

Might just add that it is a brilliant venue to see live music also.

It is about the 8th time i have seen the Finger and they seem to get better everytime that i see them. They rocked the Forum big time tonight!!!

For anyone that hasnt hear their new album, it is brilliant and a great listen.

For the music buffs, how do you think they will sit in Australian music history once they have finished?

They would have to have been one of the most successful bands over the last ten years.

I havent heard the new album.

But Powderfinger are a great rock'n'roll band IMO. I would have thought the british market who love bands like Oasis (I like them but they are pretty one paced), Coldplay and average (IMHO) bands like the Manic Street Preachers would have loved the 'finger. But for whatever reason they havent gone on and made it big like INXS or ACDC did, whereas Jet (tossers) did.

But as a Brisbane lad the defining band of my generation. Every Powderfinger album has a different meaning at a differnet time in my life.

I know the Fanning family through my little bro and its great to see Bernard back up and rocking again after a difficult time.  :thumbsup

Oddessy No. 5 is still my favourite album of theirs.

I'm no music buff lol but IMO it's harder for modern bands especially Aussie bands to get the wider Aussie public recognition than in past generations where music outlets were limited to say pubs, 3XY lol and Countdown. There are no longer any prime time tv shows devoted to the latest music both Aussie and OS. So whereas AC/DC, Midnight Oil, INXS, Cold Chisel, etc were beamed into nearly every home, you now need to make it big OS or tell your life story in New Idea lol before the wider public take notice of you. I would say most people would know about Kylie say than any other Aussie act.

I have a mate who knew those in Jet before they hit the big time. He would agree with you Jake about the tosser bit lol.

Not really.  At the kids school, they asked all the kids to wear maroon.  Guess who had to cut her gym session short in order to buy something for Mini-me so she wouldn't feel left out?

Anyway Qld Day so be next Thursday after we beat the Blues in Origin 2. :thumbsup

I was very sceptical about Powderfinger, but a few years ago at the Livid festival, I was walking past just as they were hitting the stage, and I said to my friend, how about we stay and watch a couple of songs.
Ended up watching the whole set and been a fan ever since.
I love Vulture Street. (both the album and the actual street).
Can't wait to go back to Qld Jake I love it up there, I really should investigate moving there, but I say that every winter..
