Newmo's Goal
« on: June 10, 2007, 11:25:25 PM »
Someone's done the calculations on Bigfooty lol

He was about 2 thirds from the centre of the oval to the square.

Subi Oval is 178m long and teh centre square is 50m x 50m which makes the kick (lets work it out):

Goal line to 50 m arc - 50m
50m Arc - to square 14m
Centre square 50m
Square to Arc 14m
Arc to goal line 50m
= 50 + 14 +50 +14 +50 = 178

There fore (I beleive) that Newman was 9m from the square and the ball carried 7m past the goals (it half volleyed into the fence)

So 9m + 14m + 50 m + 7m = 80m............FAAARRRRK HUGE!!! bigger than that bloke on Fr&^ksofc*$k.com

Some hardcore maths there lol :bow

Roughly 10m centre side of the square sounds right. 80m = Unfreakingbelievable Newy :gobdrop  :bow  :thumbsup. Must be longer than Blight's at Princes Park and that Saint bloke at Moorabbin.

I like the Blues supporter reply - "Was a very good kick". You reckon :rollin.

Some great goals by the Tiges today. Hyde, Tambo and Lids kicked beauties as well. Be great to get some vision.

I saw Jim Jess kick one form the centre circle with his kicking boot lying next to him - not a word of a lie!

....and Dick Clay.  ;)

Jack Dyer still has the longest kick (so he liked to say). Kicked the ball out at Glenferrie Oval and it landed in a coal truck of a passing goods train heading for Geelong. Get the mathematician to work out how far that went.  :D

I wonder how Newman's kick compares to Fehring's from the middle of Moorabbin?

ps I reckon the ball cleared the goals by 7 feet rather than metres. Still a 75m kick.  :o

One of the worst looking torps I've seen in years but what the heck.

Imagine how far it would have gone if he actually connected properly ;D

And to play the file you'll need an FLV player like this (its only 1.8mb).  I have an earlier version and its easy so hopefully this newer version is too.  :thumbsup
