Not EPL but Euro 2008 qualifiers were played overnight:

Greece 5 - 0 Malta  (for Ramps and HT74)
Scotland 1 - 2 Italy (for X)

Other results at: http://soccernet-akamai.espn.go.com/scoreboard/printable?date=20071117&cc=3436

Poland, Portugal, Italy, France, Greece, Czechs, Germany, Croatia, Spain, Sweden, Romania and Holland have all qualified. Austria and Switzerland are the hosts.

The last two spots in the final 16 will be out of Turkey/Norway and England/Russia/Israel. Israel knocked off Guus' Russia 2 - 1 to rescue England's hopes of qualifying and Turkey beat Norway 2 - 1 away to jump over them with one match to go.

In the case of England and Turkey their destiny is their hands
For England avoid defeat against Croatia at Wembley
and for Turkey beat the fellow Muslim country in Bosnia.
Norway missed a big opportunity to qualify and I feel sorry for the Scots
virtually top 2 for all the qualification and even had chances at 1-1 before
ultimately going down. Reminds me of us in 1998 in the 8 all year bar the end
of round 22. Kind of leaves you numb and hollow.

The Scots screwed up their chance the round before against minnows Georgia. Yep sadly very Richmond-like  :P. The professionalism of the Italians always gets them through. They always know just what they need to do.

Surprises me that UEFA put Greece and Turkey in the same group. It's been very civil for a potential WW3 scenario on the pitch lol. I remember stories of local games in the western suburbs in the 80's of blokes wearing spikes on their boots  :o whenever Greek and Turk club sides met.

Perhaps UEFA in all their wisdom might draw out Greece Turkey and FYROM for the qualification process of the 2010 World Cup. Now that would be an uneasy truce.

As for the Scots loss to Georgia MT to draw parrallel lines again to 1998 it was the equivalent of our loss at Waverley to Hawthorn in round 18. Just left us with too much to do mentally come that final game against the Dees just like what happened with the Tartan Army against the Italians.

That analogy is scarily on the money  :P.

The poor Poms lost at home to Croatia to miss out on Euro 2008. Best league in the world yet the most overrated national side  :wallywink.

England 2 - 3 Croatia
Andorra 0 - 1 Russia
Italy 3 - 1 Faroe Islands
Hungary 1 - 2 Greece
Turkey 1 - 0 Bosnia-Herzegovina

Euro 2008 final 16 qualifers:

Poland, Portugal, Italy, France, Greece, Turkey, Czechs, Germany, Croatia, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Romania and Holland. Austria and Switzerland are the hosts.

The Poms in cricket and Rugby and just about every other sport they have created are so overrated. Individually the English squad is great however missing key defenders like Terry and Fedinand does not help your cause. Also their coaching has left alot to be desired. Beckham should not have been cast off originally and then when he is brought back it is in cameos. Their reign at the top in sports ended years ago they need to look elsewhere in continental Europe to get their man. Look at Guus he had a mediocre Russian team by standards from previous World Cup and Euro campaigns but he had them in the box seat all through the qualifying till an unlucky loss to Israel on Sat nite. As punishment McClaren will be sent to toil in the penal colony of New Holland and coach their national team now that his stocks have been severley depleted and he will fall within the 3million price range the FFA is willing to pay.  :lol
The Draw for the championships will be made on Dec 2 with
Greece Holland and host nations Switzerland and Austria the seeded teams who will headline each of the four groups and will not meet in the group stage.  :clapping

Last nites results also ensured that Greece overtook England in the FIFA rankings and qualified them as an A seed team from Europe in terms of the draw for the 2010 World Cup qualifiers. :cheers

LOL God NO! El Tel was their assistant coach so we would get him back as well  :help. The Pommie coaches have no idea technically on how to win games. You don't qualify by dropping 13 points. Same goes for our home grown Aussie coaches. They have no idea either and guess from where they learnt their coaching-style from  :whistle.

Greece got the best group possible for 2010. Australia on the other hand got the Asian group of death. See what happens when you shaft South Melbourne. The Greek Gods have made the FFA pay  ;D
