Did Richmond just throw their hat in the ring for Pav?
« on: July 13, 2007, 06:35:21 PM »
Heard a rumour on BF (quoting Channel 7?) that we have offered $1m to him?  Nice work, Aaron Fiora.....

I know we have a bit of an issue next year to pay the minimum with a few seniors disappearing, and others moving onto performance based contracts.

Should we really be going for Pav?

PSD is the only way I'd get him.

Might be a super player but doesn't fit the age bracket for a trade.

Damn straight LT - Pav is one of the elite and would be an instant legend at Tigerland.
Was listening to SEN while out and about tonight and they were saying Port Adelaide were maybe the one's that had chucked big bucks at him  :banghead

If you could completely get rid of someone like johnson and free up enough money to grab him, I personally would do it in the blink of an eye.  :thumbsup

Would definitely be keen to get him.

This is the boot up the backside some of our guys need.

From what I know he was born December 1981 so at the end of 2008 that would make him 27

End of 1st season at 27, 2nd season at 28, 3rd season at 29 and 4th season at 30. In 2011 he will be 30 and we supposedly will be going hard for a flag. Id only do it via the PSD.

Probably we are looking to lift the cost for some other clubs so we can jack someone out of the Adelaide clubs, or maybe force one of them to take Jay Schulz ... who knows!

He won't come here.  Here's a scenario I can see - Freo will want Pick 1 for him right?  What if Adelaide or Port manage to give us two first round picks for our number one pick which they on-trade to Freo for Pav.

Port/Crows end up with Pav.  Freo get pick 1.  We end up with 2 first rounders and a priority pick at 17 - something that I'm sure will appeal to Miller.

Personally I'd rather keep pick 1 (or 2 if the blues get 1) rather than have say Pick 7 & 12 for example.  We desperately need a Kreuzer amongst our young stocks - or even one of the next 2-3 picks.

Plus, Pav is in his mid 20's - why go to a club where you're sure to wait at least 4-5 years for any success, it doesn't make sense at his end.

Just 10 years too late for us :P. Not to mention the cost in picks and $$$ to get Pav to Richmond.

Port are apparently only paying the bare minimum 92.5% of the their salary cap so they're chucking the spare cash Pavlich's way to get him to come "home" to SA.

I would get involved in any Pav trade to see if we can trade up another first round pick  swapping for our PP but would definitely say no to giving up either pick 1 or 2 for two later first rounders. This draft lacks depth and you keep hold of top 3 picks anyway. Freo were the last club to trade away pick 1 and missed out on Judd or Hodge.

What a blunder. Have to laugh at Freo's recruiting history

Wasn't Polak Freo's first pick in the first round at  pick no 4 in that draft also?

Freo's drafting and trading has been shocking. Don't think we're in a position to be laughing too hard though given our track record since Freo came into existence.  ;)

ps. Our first pick on that 2001 list was David Rodan at 33. Look where he is now and the type of footy he is playing.
