What happens when?
« on: July 24, 2007, 03:29:27 PM »
The blues lose the rest of their games next season and get pick 1 in the draft in 2007.

Next year Richmond and Carlton both only win 4 games in the year, and both qualify for priority draft picks next year.

Who gets the number 1 pick then?

Good question. If Carlton get the priority pick this year... in that case they would be back to square one perhaps and have to wait till 2009?
In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act.

I don't know. Probably whoever finishes lower.

But I'm not expecting the AFL to keep the rules the same 2 years running  ::)

Further to what X said, i think they have to combine this years wins with next years.

2007 4 wins = 20 points
2008 4 wins = 20 points

total           = 40 points which i think is too much for a priority pick.

I THINK  ???

from what I understand, if we win more than 4 matches next year but are still under the 2 year aggregate we dont get the before draft PP

So they use 5 points for a win in the draft system? What else can you get points for?

that is true, but i think that you are all missing the point.

The point is as follows,

assuming richmond and the blues both win less than 4 games this year, carlton get pick 1 as a prioirty richmond get pick 2, melbourne get pick 3 and carlton get pick 4 and so on.

Lets say next year, richmond win 4 games , and the blues win 4 games, therfore we both qualify for priority picks, my question is, who gets pick 1 in 2008?

I dont think they would get one Blaisee and either would we i think, isnt the cut off 5 wins? If so, we would have 5 and half (4 next year and 1 and a half this season)

AFL revamps priority pick system

The AFL has been forced to make another change to its priority draft pick laws after accepting that under-performing teams were getting too much of an advantage.

Under the current laws, any team finishing with five or fewer wins gains one extra draft pick before the start of the first round of the draft.

Under the new laws, a team finishing with four or fewer wins will get an extra pick, but only after the first round of the draft.

However, if a team finishes with four or fewer wins for two consecutive years, it will gain a pick at the start of the draft as is the case under the current system.

What happens when the Blues offer to swap Fev to Richmond for Richmonds first pick at this years end
