Terry Wallace has brushed aside speculation about his future as Richmond coach following the sacking of Kevin Sheedy.

Sheedy was told earlier this week that his record 27-year stint at Essendon would not be extended, prompting inevitable speculation that he could be lured back to Richmond, the club he played 251 games for from 1967-79.

Richmond made a concerted play to prise Sheedy away from the Bombers as head coach in the late 1990s, but he chose to stay put.

Wallace hosed down any conjecture that his own position could be shaky, with Sheedy now looking for a new position.

"I am only five weeks over the halfway mark of my (five-year) contract so I have no dramas from that and you only deal with what you can control," he said before overseeing a training session at the SCG ahead of Saturday night's clash with the Swans.

"Anyway it has really got nothing to do with my situation.

"I just get on and do my job."

Wallace said he had not had any meetings or sought any guarantees about his position at the club.

"No absolutely not, no," he said.

Four coaches have been sacked this season - Neale Daniher at Melbourne, Chris Connolly at Fremantle, Denis Pagan at Carlton and Sheedy.

Wallace said his aim was to ensure his bottom-placed side finished the season strongly and that his young players continued to develop for the coming seasons.

"We want to be competitive, we have been competitive for most of the year," he said.

"We probably dropped away a bit in the last fortnight and we obviously want to do something about that."

Sheedy, 59, hinted strongly on Thursday night that he was already pursuing some sort of role - but not necessarily as a senior coach.

A BIG win against Richmond at the SCG tonight would boost Sydney's finals hopes but could spell disaster for Tiger coach Terry Wallace.

Wallace said yesterday that he had not lost any sleep following the sackings of Essendon's Kevin Sheedy and Carlton's Denis Pagan this week and still felt secure in his post.

"I'm only five weeks over the halfway mark of my contract," he said.

"I've got no dramas from that. There's not much you can control with that, anyway. It's got nothing to do with my situation, I just get on and do the job."

Wallace said the sackings had not prompted him to seek reassurance from the Tiger board about his future.

But he admitted this week that he may not survive as Richmond coach until the end of his five-year contract.

"We have been competitive for most of the year," Wallace said. "We have dropped away the past fortnight and obviously we want to do something about that.

"From the point of view of finals, the season is gone. But there is still a fair bit of pride that you play for.

"There were a couple of teams last year that finished the season on a high note and took that into the summer and have had really good years this year."
