Brian Royal on SEN
« on: July 28, 2007, 02:46:37 PM »
Chocco Royal was on SEN just now:

* As Terry has said before it'll take the whole 5 years to get the mix right.

* We need a ruckman.

* People will think we need KPPs but we have a number of young KPPs who need time to develop. Need one more.

* Tonight have 9 of the kids who haven't played footy on the SCG. So the sort of challenge Terry loves.

They took two calls from Richmond supporters who both were for Terry and that'll it take time given the state of the list when he took over. They blame opposition supporters (mentioned BF) for the talk of getting rid of Wallace.

Yes this is true. One in the PSD and one in the draft

This is wrong. We need atleast 2. They believe that Schulz, McGuane and Thursfield are key position players. Schulz wont make it at RFC, McGuane they overate and Thirsty should be playing on 3rd talls.

My mail from Coburg is that Gus Graham will be a gun.  :shh

Probably take him another year or so to get to that level but will be elevated this year.

Ive actually been impressed with his progress, if can continue then certainly he can at the very least be a support ruckman at AFL level.

gus strikes me as a good backup. Not enought about him for him to be a number 1, but would be a solid contributor as the 2nd ruck

Graham is going very well considering where he has come from.

Compare him to someone like Hamish McIntosh.
Hamish was pick 9 in the 2002 draft and didnt play his first game until his 3rd year and even then only played one game that year. In his 4th year he played 17 games and started to show something and now by his 5th year he has played every game nad is likely to be AA.

Angus was taken in the rookie draft and looks likely to debut this year which is only his 2nd.

Can't compare McIntosh and Gus.

McIntosh came into AFL with great athleticism, a great mark and very good skills (both in the ruck and by hand and foot). It just took him ages and ages to transfer to AFL performance.

Gus came in as a speculative type. As much as I'd like Gus to become as good as McIntosh, he probably won't make it to that level

Bully by "this year" do you mean onto the senior list for next year? Gus has already been elevated off the rookie list to replace Razor who's on the long-term injury list.

Maybe you cant compare them, but Gus is playing well in the VFL way before McIntosh was in his career.

Yes, it took him until his 5th year to start playing well in the AFL and his 3rd year before he got an AFL game.

All im saying is for a ruckman he is progressing really well compared to most.

I read it that way too, although I do remember one TW stating that there is no reason why you can't have wins while you are rebuilding. :sleep
