What is the future of the RFC

Considering the following

We are having a shocking season and we are likely to lose whatever Friday Nights we had and the sponsors will get less exposure

We are still in debt

We are looking at a membership debacle next year unless the club can properly spin the "future" - we could lose thousands of members.

We have the worst list in the competition - its worse in my opinion than what it was in the late 1980s

The supporters are losing hope and if they lose interest, the club is in real trouble

The club is unable to compete in terms of the football department ie. We cant recruit players properly from SA and WA and across Australia and other clubs are making good players out of Irish recruits- regularly

The club seems light years away from being a force, at this stage even being competitive seems a long way away.

The media is now comparing us to Fitzroy in its darkest hours.


So whats the future? Do we have a future the way we are going?

dont know about friday nights, but richmond allways gets exposure no matter what

Membership continued to grow this year and pushed to 30,000 even though we were struggling

We have the worst list in the competition - its worse in my opinion than what it was in the late 1980s

Losing hope at the moment, but with each new year a new beginning beckons

All vic clubs struggle compared to SA and WA, the AFL created the monster, they need to do something about it. 1 Irish recruit to be exact

So whats the future? Do we have a future the way we are going?

We have one of the best supporter bases, it shows with the support we have maintained throughout a very bleak testing 25 years.
The way we are going I will judge in 2009. I like some of the kids, just need to keep them together as a group and expand on that.

Know how ur feeling Ramps, believe dat. But we must keep our chins up no matter how hard it is at times.
Remember Hawthorn and StKilda and now Carlton have to go through short term pain fo the long term gain.
No use sticking to our topping up as we have done in years gone by.
The bullet was bit when Wallace started and the short term pain is now on in ernest.
Hopefully the long term gain pops it's head for as teaser sooner 2008/2009 rather than later.

As for doofus' comment about Fitzroy, best ignored. Not even close

i think the only aspect of our club that looks fitzroyish is the football side of the club. Our inability to improve is just a disgrace.

we are worse than what fitzroy ever was! fitzroy at least had a pretty good list and decent players that other clubs benefited from. they had 9 premirships we have 10, we have a few more supporters than they did, but they had a much better and talented list

Comparing us to Fitzroy who no longer exist because they couldn't make a profit no matter how well they performed on the field and for all their history had a man and his dog following them. Comparing us to the late 1980s when our debt levels were at 50-60% of our annual revenue. Yep but it's the rest of us who are living in la la land as to where we are at .

The fact is we will make a PROFIT this year despite just having 1.5 wins. The Club has finally realised that we need to pump $$$ into recruiting and development. As for Friday night games and the draw - we get screwed anyway by the AFL so what's new.

All I will say on this is:

You want to see our future and where we are heading then have a look at the kids we have running around at Coburg and believe me things are not as gloomy as everyone says. I don't put credence into the likes of Caro & walls saying there is no hope with our list - they wouldn't kow anything about the kids playing there

The business side of the club is bvery strong indeed - another half million to million $ profit on its way.

Fair point WP. We have drafted well last year and Collins is getting big wraps as a coach.

But do you think Terry and co are good enough to bring them on? I'm not overly impressed with the development of the class of 2004.
