One of the shining lights for Richmond throughout the second half of the ’07 season has been Nathan Brown’s impressive return to league football.
Brown, who missed the first half of this season due to complications from the severe broken leg he suffered in 2005, isn’t back to his brilliant best just yet – but he’s certainly having a significant impact up forward for the Tigers.
In six matches since resuming his league career, Brown has kicked 12 goals and has set up quite a few for teammates with typically smart play.
He’s averaging 15 disposals per game, nearly seven marks per game, and is looking so much more like the confident Nathan Brown of old.
The 29-year-old was restricted to just 10 games in the 2006 season, and struggled throughout to cope with the pain in his leg.
Continuing leg problems forced Brown to sit out the first half of this season and the Club didn’t place high expectations on him in the short term when he returned for the Round 12 match against Melbourne on June 22.
The Tigers were simply keen for Brown to get through the second half of the season unscathed and to build some momentum going into 2008.
It’s fair to say, with what he’s shown in six games so far, Brown has clearly exceeded expectations and shown the football world that there’s plenty of quality football left in him.
