« on: August 24, 2007, 04:37:56 PM »
According to 7 they will break a huge story based on leaked AFL documents tonight. Involves a Melbourne based AFL club and drug use amongst its players. 7 players at least involved.

DEVELOPING STORY: A TELEVISION news report has accused two ****** footballers of taking the illegal drugs ecstasy, ice and cocaine during drug-fuelled nightclub sessions.

Channel 7 News tonight showed medical notes supposedly from a drug counselling session with the two ****** players.

A woman, Catherine, who spoke to the network on condition of anonymity, said she found the medical files with details of the drug use in a gutter outside an Ivanhoe clinic.

The medical records, which were shown with players names obscured, said the players had tested positive to ecstasy, ice and cocaine. They had taken the drugs with a group of other people.

Channel 9 reported Catherine had been paid by Channel 7 for the interview that obscured her identity.

This is what was said on 6PR in Perth:

Records found outside Ivanhoe (drug rehabilitation place, perhaps). Woman gave them to Ch 7. Ch 7 acknolwedged they paid her money. Records, written by a doctor, hand written, named 2 players, recognised the names from Hawthorn. Also talks about a number (up to 7 others) who are using or have used illicit drugs. They are receiving it from someone asssociated with the Hawwhorn FC (not sure if inside the player group or not). Records show the 2 players named have tested positive to illicit drugs twice. One as late as december last year to "Ice".

Court action over AFL story
The Age
August 24, 2007 - 7:35PM

A court injunction has been taken out preventing media outlets from further publication of television allegations aired tonight involving an AFL club and two of its players.

The Seven Network tonight made claims relating to the club and players, who cannot be named for legal reasons.

Federal Ageing Minister Christopher Pyne said he was very disappointed for the players, the families and the AFL.

"It's always sad for individuals when revelations like this come to light," he said in a statement.

The AFL was making no comment tonight.

No player names can be posted for the sake of the site. Not even jokingly.
