Good luck, Mattie, but I don't think he'll last 18 months.
The state that club has been left, it's clear he will be a scapegoat for it and the great white dud Hird will do an apprenticeship and take over after Mattie gets crucified.

And Roger, I think Mattie barracked for the Hawks as a kid!

I never thought that i'd see a Richmond player from the past 25 years ever be a senior coach.
And you may not think I care for you

iirc, matty was always a tiger fan, coming from merbein and playing up in mildura, im certain he was a tiger fan, but i could be wrong

anyway, i feel sorry 4 knighter, he is walking the plank.  the bombers were too scared to appoint one of their own cos they know they are stuffed and will now pass the blame on knighter when all will fail

oh well, knighter is the enemy now, wish him and the bombers no luck and hope the bombers become the new rfc, where they will have 25 yrs of misery and board wars

Bomber fans were/are going ape over the decision. Some haven't forgiven Matty for the 95 SF.

And being not an "Essendon-man" it'll be so easy for them to make him the scapegoat when it's their board who has stuffed this all up. They sacked Sheedy in a rush to only appoint their "reserves" coach 8 weeks later! Talk about Matty being given a poison chalice.

oh for gods sake give me a break.

What exactly has knights done to earn the coburg job.

He failed at port adelaide and got sacked, and now he has failed at bendigo.

We need a winner, and knighter isnt one, and never has been, and never will be.

Blaisee, you must be in the know. ::)

Can tell you that Matty will be a terrific coach.
All you know it alls on here bagged me for for suggesting that Matty would coach the Tiges one day ? Guess what, the tiges have missed out again.
Matty is a terrifc bloke with a football brain who has great respect by footy people, :thumbsup

Matty is a great bloke but he hardly has a coaching record to write home about. Port Magpies were glad to get rid of him and his Bendigo Bombers haven't done anything. If he was the best candidate they wanted then the Bombers wouldn't have chased and waited for Bomber Thompson.

Good luck to Matty Knights even though he is with the enemy now.
I just feel he has been thrown in the deep end as those who Essendon
preferred to actually coach them were eliminated eventually (Williams and Bomber).

This appointment is much in the same vein as us in 1999 when Geishen left
and one by one the candidates went to other clubs as we were waiting for
Sheeds to come home. We then picked up Spud as he seemed to be the only
candidate left as those with more credentialls went
Thompson- Geelong
Schwab- Hawthorn  :lol
Ayres - Adelaide
Collingwood - Malthouse
West Coast - Judge  :lol :scream :lol :scream :lol :scream :lol :scream

Anyway I think he has big shoes to feel in both the name and the era that Sheeds presided over and the most pleasing thing for me will be this if it occurs. After watching a tiger lead Essendon to on field success for the best part of 20 years
I'll be watching another tiger continuing on Sheeds legacy over the last 4 seasons of his tenure and watching the Bombers systematically categorically failing both on and off the field.

But does that make him a good coach ?

Would never wish any ill towards Knighter,  but really couldn't give a flying now.
He has a huge job ahead of him and will need to be a damn good coach to get the bummers anywhere in the next 3 years.

We will see, I spose all knowing one -  :rollin

Well done Mathew - unfortunately a lot of dons supporters I guess don't approve of his appointment. I guess that may make hin a marked man from the start. I guess they don't know what a champion he was with us - I guess they weren't around when Spud shafted him and he carried himself so well.

I guess he must have interviewed well.

I just hope he stops saying " I guess" every two minutes.

Hutchy via Lyon said that Hardwick had the job to lose on Monday. Knighter won Essendon over with his presentation yesterday. Knighter believing the Bombers were closer to finals than what Hardwick did. Hird said Knighter is well respected within the walls at Essendon.

Hmmm.....obviously doesn't pay to be a realist. Just tell them what they want to hear.

Knowing the list being in disrepair perhaps Hardwick did the smart thing and did not want to take the job thus leaving Knighter in the unenviable position which he gleefully has accepted.
Despite Matty being a legend of our club and a great guy he is no senior coach.
It will be a long long haul for the Bombers
We will make the 8 before Essendon does.
