People can rubbish Trent Cotchin all they want. But lets give some credit to the players who tag him & get the job done. Yep he was beaten in a main game & it won't be his last. But how many times have we heard Cotchin cutting up teams & being best afield.
Yes Dimma needs to help our players out when they are heavily tagged & Cotch was not the only one who failed to break tags yesterday.

BUT BUT.

A midfielder can not perform at his best if your ruckman is tapping that ball straight to your opposition, & this happened many times yesterday with our ruckmen at bounces. We were simply killed by their ruck & midfielders.

Give Cotch a break. IMO he was carrying some sort of injury just watching him. It's over & we move on.

NORTH Melbourne tagger Ben Jacobs has revealed he required a hospital check-up two days before shutting down Richmond skipper Trent Cotchin in Sunday's elimination final.
Jacobs suffered a bad case of gastro in the week leading up to the final that left him unable to train and even prompted a hospital visit on Thursday.
The 23-year-old lost between three and four kilograms due to the illness but still managed to keep Cotchin to just nine possessions in a performance that was a key factor in the Kangaroos' 17-point win on Sunday.

Eff me, surely there can't be any excuses for Cotch either he never turned up or the selection committee stuffed up big time by picking him (if the injury rumours are true)

He's got a few credits in the bank ...

Hard wick has a history of playing people with injury ...

If you have a bad back it's not easy to play football. More so with some scrubber up your bottom for two hours...
Then he grabbed two chopsticks and stuck them in his mouth , pretending to be a walrus

Lost me yesterday.

Still angry today.

I guess time can heal as he is a class player. Should have a Brownlow.

But until he can impose himself on a final/finals questions will rightly be asked.

Forced to accept they're not good enough.

It is champ. Failure is a bitter pill to swallow.

Realisation of that is worse after working towards and thinking you were good enough.

Club needs to make some hard decisions on off and on field personnel.

Decision indeed, my friend.

The swinging axe is the only thing that can improve th club in any way.

Sack conca, Grigg,Ellis.chaplin and get four upgrades.

It all makes sense now, Jacobs must have shat on him during the game. Everyone knows you can't even let one rip when you've got gastro.
The club that keeps giving.

The Chosen Few 2 doco is on Ch 7 now. Interviews with most of the AFL captain including Cotch.

Feels the responsibility and expectation as captain. Would he have liked an extra year to find his own way before getting the gig? Yes and no.

Feels nervous before arriving at the AFL captains' day (in March). Not sure why. Out of interest, Tex Walker said the same thing although in fewer words lol.

Cotch said he was a straight shooter from early on when he arrived at the Club. The guys would call him "grandpa" even in his first year. Cotch reckoned he was too serious at times.

Jon Ralph names the 10 AFL figures who must get it right this summer to help their side rise up the ladder in 2016

JON RALPH

TRENT COTCHIN

If a coach has screamed louder at his players after a finals loss in my 15 years covering footy at the Herald Sun, it escapes the memory.

Damien Hardwick’s post-match rant came after Richmond’s midfield was disgraced against North Melbourne, losing the contested football count by 33, clearances by seven and disposals by 46.

To his eternal credit Trent Cotchin fronted up to the media after Ben Jacobs kept him to a career-worst nine possessions

“It starts at the top and with me. I let the boys down,’’ he said.

He will work on techniques to break tags over the summer but his midfield teammates shouldn’t leave it all up to him.
