Fans lose more respect for umps

THE standard of umpiring has dropped to its lowest level in three years, according to those who watch from the stands.

Richmond fans were the most critical, with 48 per cent of Tigers fans saying the men in white had been average or poor.

those who complain about the umpires are sore-looses ...

like honestly ... do they get the football ??? do they have a shot for goal ??? do they handball ???

just play football and stop complaining ... you want the football ... go get it !!!

i believe the 48% was because of the Richardson incident against Essendon !!! ... lol ...

The main complaint was about the 50m paid against Richo. The hands in the back rule is unworkable and I hate it but by strict interpretation it was there.

I wouldn't call everyone who complains about umpiring as sore-losers either. We're not blaming them for costing us games. Rather it's a criticism of the standard of umpiring and the way rules are interpreted or forced on the umpires to interpret. All we ask for is consistency during games and through the season (not going hard early with new rules and then soft later in the year) plus rules which don't put umpires into a (or should that be out of) position where they have to guess. I'd rather they let the umps just pay the obvious frees and let the 50/50 ones just be play on. Nearly everytime there's a 1-on-1 contest now you're wondering if the umps will pay a free and which way.

Consistency is the big problem, if they are going to umpire badly be consistent about it!
It seems that the umpires are more against you when youre losing but that isnt usually the case, it just seems that when youre going bad, the ball bounces the wrong way, the umpires are biased, the suns in your eyes, your pie is cold etc etc etc lol
